I love auctions but we don't have any here in the boonies. I went frequently when we lived in the city. I agree those boxfuls of "junk" can be a good buy as often no one wants them.

I've found lots of good buys at Grandma/Grandpa yard sales where the relatives are selling off all the old stuff. In a way it's kind of sad as it's people's lifelong collections but a lot of glass from the 60's and 70's really has no value for anyone except for totem makers. I always pay what they ask and often it comes to 10¢ - $1 per item. Interesting pieces also. When I see them in Value Village or other thrift stores they can be as much as $5 each, sometimes more. Way too expensive for me for totems.

Piper, Auctions are very fun for a crafter or refurbisher. I bought an entire table full of old solid brass lamps one time for $12. Forget about the ball game! I'll just sing, "TAKE ME OUT TO THE AUC-TION" (loud and off key of course)

I agree auctions are a great place to find deals, but these days I don't hardly have the patience or time to wait them out. Down here the heat really gets to me this time of year. They are sad too, when I'm gone my DS is going to have one giant auction, I just know it, oh well somebody is gonna get some good stuff.

I love to go to auctions, but I'm with you guys....seems you have to wait forever for stuff to come around! But, you can find some great stuff there. Also the sales that they hold at storage places yields some great treasures too!

Oh I forgot all about the unclaimed storage unit sales. I'll have to see if there are any coming up. I really need to go downtown and see if any of the antique stores are having any sales or going out of business. I live in "The Antique Capital of East Texas", so they claim. Sometimes some of the booths have 50 and 60 percent off. I just have to find some pretty glass so I can make a totem. And maybe even a votive bug!

Good idea. I have found some awesome things at auctions. Especially if you hit one on an off day when there are hardly any bidders. My mom got a like new sofa, love seat and chair for $100 years ago. Luckily a lot of our auctions are indoors where it is air conditioned.

Around here, the storage places sell off their spaces at auction. You don't get to go through the stuff before bidding. You can just see what you can through the doorway. Not sure I need that much junk! he-he

I enjoy auctions when I go to Indiana, but we don't have many here and they are strictly Antique auctions, not any junk. Hopefully, headed to Indiana in September, but can't buy much there because I ride home with someone else. My DD drives me there, and will fly home. I am leaving my old car there year round to have when I am there.
When Bill was alive we had to always pull a cargo trailer for my buys--LOL Truck was not big enough!

I'm in Gladewater, TX. The main street downtown is lined on both sides with antique stores as are some of the side streets. Twomonths, you probably shopped here lots if your from Longview. Kathyjb, I'm not good with directions so have no idea how far you would be from us. There used to be lots more stores but people have retired or just gone out of business.
