Photos finally of baker's rack decorated

I finally got my broken camera replaced, and got photos of my baker's rack finished. Some of the things on it are 'treasures' sent by my GJ friends. So everytime I look at this piece, I think of y'all. (My kitchen table is on other side of bay window. You can barely see tops of some totems I have in a brick planter, and half a dozen copper chimes hang above it. Including the wonderful Moon Glass that Smickerdoodle sent me.

Now I have to get photos of my GW finds that had me so excited recently.

Right outside your kitchen AND you can open the window to all of that. That is awesome. I love the fact that you are surrounded by things that you love and inspire you. I have NEVER seen a " mini" bottle tree like the one on the bakers rack. What a great idea. I live in a deed restricted community so I can't get away with too much GJ, but I slip it in among the flowers when people are not looking...that's a great idea.

Very pretty setting! I'm glad you got the camera replaced. I love your little bottle bush and my sister would really covet that rooster of yours. The gold birdcage is a gem too. Keep those pictures coming now that you have a camera!

Thanks for the photo help, Denise! Michelle, the hoya above the TV that has a vine directly in front of the TV is a beautiful 'Silver Splash' obovata I purchased from e-bay vendor Cowboyflowerman about a year ago. If you're looking directly to the right of the TV at the plant with the 11 inch leaf, that is vittelinoides. Eileen/FL, I think the one you are referring to with the eight inch leaf his Joni's aff. clandestina, probably (OK for now anyway), my favorite. It is tough, beautiful, and easy, easy, easy. Nancy, thank you for your kind words. You are an expert who grows stunning hoyas and your feedback is encouraging. GG - thanks for your input. I just mentioned this in another post but next time you're in the Minneapolis area, you might want to check out Orchids Limited off of 494 and Fernbrook in Plymouth. He's got beautiful stuff and it is my idea of heaven when its the middle of January. Tina - I am a scavenger by nature. The entertainment stand was free - a cast-off by an acquaintance. Three of my 'racks' are garage sale items: two wrought iron aquarium stands and a wrought iron CD stand. I try to keep my plant stands and pots the same: wood and wrought iron for the stands and clay for pots. I live in a small townhouse with limited space and if I don't try to unify the plants somehow, it starts to bother me and I feel like I need to start cleaning. Which I don't like to do. RFG/Michael - I truly enjoy your postings that focus on the botany and horticulture of hoyas. Thank you for those posts. In terms of this post, my hoyas will have you know that they are not screaming, 'More light eek, more (p)light please' but rather cooing to me sweetly: 'Thank you for all the food, water, and love you lavish upon us in your less-than-ideal growing conditions. We know you wish to share your living space with us and don't wish to add mylar and grow lights to the living room and loft decor. While you are not meeting our needs to bloom for you, we will still throw strong and green vines to help provide for your oxygen needs and lift your spirits when the cold and ice of January feel like they will never lift and you feel like you must throw yourself from a bridge'. That is what my 'hoyas' are saying and if you listen ever-so-carefully and very intently, and with the reflection and open-mindedness of a truly thoughtful person, you might hear them say it to you as well. Thanks for commenting... lynnenc, ladypat, candy, kathleen, janet, jane, magpie, purplemoon... I agree, there is such beauty in "pines" ...& it is always fun to decorate with them. Outside on this patio they stay green for a long, long time. And the "old stuff" just seems to blend in so well with the natural elements. My bakers rack has weathered well outdoors for quite a few yrs & it's kind of in a protected corner area from wind..which we get alot of here. So, go for it, if you find a baker's rack $$$ BARGAIN! Thanks for the kind "pics" comments...I use MS Digital Image Suite & often "soften" the edges (it's kind of like "framing" the pic) so that my eyes are drawn more to what I really want to see. Thank you everyone for bearing with me as I wade through all the different options. budge1: glad to hear I am no alone in second guessing all my decisions. Do give us all an update! I certainly have not made any decisions. I bought a yard of drapery fabric at CC because I wanted to see all the colors in the fabric and I know that is part of my indecision. I'm also thinking of making a couple of bolster cushions for the bergere chairs with the material. BTW, squirrel, I never bought any chair fabric. The chairs were always meant to be a focal point and if you recall, many of the fabrics I was considering were $$. I brought in all fabrics and swatches of the existing wall colors to get their opinion as computer monitors can be deceptive. They first off suggested a gold, but did see the issue of it looking good near the Oat Straw--since both are neutrals, one with more green, the other with more yellow. Then they suggested going a shade darker than the sofa/drapes, but didn't seem too enthused about a terra cotta. At BM, I fould a lovely shade of terra cotta, audubon russet; that is until the salesperson told me it would be too intense to put on all the walls. If I took it a shade less, we would then be thinking about pink. He started steering me towards Wilmington Tan and Tyler Taupe. He liked Tyler Taupe the best as he felt it blended well with all my fabrics plus the Oat Straw. Unfortunately, they were out of the sample paint for Tyler Taupe though it will come in tomorrow and they don't make it in Willington Tan so I'd have to buy a quart. So, tomorrow I plan to go again and pick up some samples, In the meantime, here are the swatches for you to see. The russet is to the upper left near the flower (I tried to match to that), and then left to right are: Willmington Tan, Oat Straw, Tyler Taupe, and False Cypress. I am so confused right now which direction to go--everyone seems to have a different take on it. At this point, I do know I want to paint the entry--the living room I am still at a loss. The more I see the fabrics together the more I like them. I just need something to tie it all together at the same time be an accent to the trim which is in Swiss Coffee. I know these are not on the wall, but perhaps you can take a look and at least let me know if I'm headed in the right direction and which samples to buy.

Lucy- See, the siren song of your pizzas, so delicious that they even lured Lou in to take a peek :-). I must have spaced & completely missed your suggestion about baking the pizza on the stone with the cast iron pan above. I wish that I had noticed it! I'll try it that way this weekend (my guys looooove pizza- I swear that's why my husband married me, the fact that I made pizza & the whole Italian Christmas eve fish frenzy). I was a woman posessed and made pizza this weekend while test driving recipes for the boozy bake off. Using Julia's french bread recipe for the crust was insipired and produced a much crispier crust than I had ever achieved before. This dough could also be worked much thinner than my usual pizza dough. I'll be using this dough method from now on unless I'm in a super hurry for pizza. While my pizzas were nowhere near as gorgeous as yours the pizza under the stone (baked on the cast iron pan) was far superior to the one baked over the stone (but not directly on the stone, what a dope I am!). I will begin the quest for a second stone...and a peel! Do we even have a restaurant supply place in our neck of the woods anymore? The one in Port Chester is still there, I think, but the huge one in Elmsford is gone & the one in Peekskill seems to have mainly commercial ranges and giant mixers. I love to mix provolone in with the mozzarella but my son claims it's "too spicy" (he's 3, whatcha gonna do?) Oh Lou, I crave one of those outdoor brick ovens! My father used to build them (him being a bricklayer) but he passed when I was a little girl. He'd be very amused to see his little girl pining for one of those old ovens that he used to make. I swear, I'm gonna have to build it myself one of these days. BTW- I got my baking stone on the clearance shelf at Kohls for 3$ a few years ago. It can't hurt to keep an eye on the dept store clearance, especially after the holidays. I would definitely be interested in the wirtual pizza party, as well as the cupcakes. throw in cocktails and, well, you're playing my song :-). Nina

What a great display Karen! Your baker's rack looks great with all of your treasures on it! If you're like me, seeing my treasures makes me happy and with all that you have, I'll bet you smile everyday!

Beautiful ! I Assume it's in a place that's protected from the weather ? It's just too darn pretty to get rain or snow on it . HAH ! I just had to scroll up to see what city you are in ----- PHOENIX ! LOL -- I don't think you'll have to worry much about snow !

LOL, you're right Toomuch, no worry about snow in Phoenix.
We rarely get rain for that matter. But I did add the lattice to the end of the patio to protect it some from wind and sun and stablize it. Plus it shows up better against the white lattice.

Nona, here's the birdhouse "tool box". I found it in GW last year. Was full of Easter decor. The gnome by it and the washboard on bottom shelf came from our NCShabbyBeach.

Close-up of my Mini Bottle Bush I took a few months ago. I got the cute blue bucket from Daisydal, so transplanted my bush into it to put on the baker's rack. And added the glass bug from Kirk n Carol to the bucket.

I'm always saying I don't need any more friends if someone gets upset but I'm only kidding. One can never have to many friends. I love your Bay Window, can I ask if it has a screen I can't see. I may be replacing my house windows soon and one of them is a bay window in the kitchen and I just love this one.

OK, purplemoon, if it's 100+ in Phoenix, then I would LOVE to sit at your kitchen table, drinking iced water with a slice of lemon...and enjoy your beautiful garden vignette! OHHHH, so pretty...and so many wonderful GJ memories! Great save on the baker's rack & the transformation ... and the bottle bush (replanted) is quit impressive! TFS! Jeanne S.
p.s. Is the window open or is your bay window glass REALLY that clean!!! I don't suppose you use "screens" in Phoenix!

Punk, no chairs on the little patio but those two wood ones that have decor on them. I rarely SIT outside, I'm always playing ball with the dogs or watering plants or just wandering around. My back prefers I not sit and I do enough of that on here at night. LOL.

Nana, the little side windows have screens, so they can be opened. Which I don't do from May till end of Oct. Prefer not to let in 100 plus degrees. The big window doesn't open, nor has a screen.

Jeanne, LOL, no my window isn't THAT clean. I just have a GREAT camera that doesn't pick up dust and or cat nose prints.

Thanks for all the kind words. Sometimes I feel like my little patio is REALLY "junked up" with so much stuff on it.
The fairy garden is at the other end, plus a fountain, and then chimes along the whole length of it. Etc etc etc.

That beautiful gilded birdcage was from Marlene by the way,
it was in my Summer Junk Jamboree gift box. Between our Xmas gift exchanges, and now this summer one, and the Junk Train rolling in, I've got some super stuff to give me loads of memories from so many of you. And I have some special friends like BigDeck's "sneaky, conniving, NOT" that have treated me to some day brighteners when most needed.
I am so blessed by the folks here because the most important gift of all has been FRIENDSHIP.
