Honda HR214 Oil Change
Comments (14)Great Suggestions - I open the drain plug, tilted mower on side, allowed to drain, gently pulled cord to cycle the pistons a few times to drain more. Put about 4 oz in allowed to drain right out, put in 12 oz, cut grass, about 60 minutes. drained, put in 20oz, appears to be a bit low, so going to get another SAE 30 to have around. Next time I'll do drain and flush with 4 oz, but fill with 20oz and run an hour, drain and refill with 20oz. Repeat every spring. For 5 bucks for oils it's worth it yearly. This mowers beats them all. I also have owned this for nearly 20 years. Maybe got it in Stillwater in 1993/1994. A repair guy at Northern Tool, said, never let this one get away from you, it's made with more metal than the new plastic models everyone is building these days. Cheers, Greg...See MoreHonda Mower oil leak
Comments (15)Saxman you are correct that the mower engine cylinder head cover is attached using an adhesive, but incorrect that it doesn't leak bcos mine sure did :). The shop told me that removing this thin-metal part without damaging it is impossible, the adhesive is just too strong, it bends too much. Apparently a very small crack or flaw in the adhesive is plenty for oil to escape. My local shop put on new adhesive and a new cylinder head cover (part HON12310-Z8A-000, $4.50), charged 0.7 hours of labor, total bill of about $70....See MoreHow much oil for a honda gcv160?
Comments (15)That crazy '12-13 oz' is some kind of typo. I've seen it a number of times relative to the GCV 160 and GSV 190, and just like you posted they say in the same sentence that it holds 18.56 oz (something like that, as if we can measure oil to the hundredth of an ounce). I found that if you put in 20 oz which is the normal lawn mower oil change, the level is a tad high and it will leak oil from the governor rod where it enters the crankcase. So, I started measuring 19 oz. and it comes out good on the stick. Definitely go by the stick, but the question is on the pressure washer, does the engine have a long engine oil fill tube, and does it require you to not screw the cap in to check the oil? On Honda mowers you do not screw the cap in when checking the oil. All other engines I know of have you screw the cap down to check it. How did you get the oil out of it to change? Did you tip over the pressure washer on it's side so the oil came out of the fill tube as on mower engines?...See MoreHonda GX25 & GX31 last longer than the commercial 2 cycle?
Comments (3)Hi Bob, How are you? Enjoying your retirement? Did you see the other post I wrote, thanks for the help on that. It is working very good now. That time, I only clean the blade without taking it apart, it doesn't work as well. It did improve. I just took it all apart and really scrape it down. It works like a dream!!! Yes I change oil on those Honda engine very often. So far on my Honda trimmer, I change twice already and I have only about 10 hours on it. So that make it about 5 hours between changes!!! It is so easy to change anyway. Where I live, they actually pickup used oil!!! I wash the air filter ones and I use fresh gas with Stabil. Never over one month. How's your back. I think I wrote to you before, I have back problem for a long time. I found exercise, weight training really help, just need to learn from a pro trainer how to do it the correct way first. I have been managing my back for the last 20 years. In fact I have been sparing ( fighting without hitting hard) with my grandson who is a brown belt in Tai Kwan Do when ever he stay over!! Take care and thanks for your help....See Morenevada_walrus
