They want the mower so they can FIX the problem. Pretty rare the primer itself is the cause of priming failure. More likely a filter backing plate or plate to carb gasket problem.

Chinese manufactures send entire components rather then fix the problem because they have no service shops to do so.

i'm a little puzzled as to why an expert like yourself would need the entire mower. i can remove the tank/carb as a unit and set it on your desk, and u can see it not prime consistantly.
They claim it has a parts warranty, but won't honor it for the parts! Say a cable snaps. they want the whole mower! well i say let them come get it at their expense.

First, I had the wrong engine in mind. You have a Sprint/Quattro not a Quantum Power as I was thinking. thus the filter plate thing was off base.

Still, it not likely the primer bulb.
Whether it be with a independent dealer or Sears, this is a Briggs paid warranty. Briggs doesn't pay anyone to send parts to anyone. They expect their authorized warranty dealers to make the corrections.

You taking apart something that isn't part of routine maintenance is akin to tampering, voiding warranty. If Sears or any other dealer just sent you parts they would eat it, Briggs would not re-imburse them. If you were a certified small engine mechanic working for a certified warranty dealer you would know it because this is standard policy with anyone with a service network. The Chinese do not so they operate differently.

are you saying removing the air filter voids the warranty?
sears says that is part of maintenance.
I have not tried to fix it as I don't have any parts.(and don't want to void the warranty, and why should I, it is NEW)

You mentioned removing the fuel tank/carb assembly and taking just it to the dealer. That is not maintenance.

Castor, not sure of your age but I too am a cranky old man so I sorta feel your pain but rules are rules regarding warranty and what we are allowed to do.

Seems a bit moot at this time since you do have a scheduled visit from Sears just a short time away. I guess the the fact we aren't yet in the fast growing season that is something to be thankful for. Well, you're in Florida so maybe not, the grass is probably already knee high there.

I would suspect a improperly installed diaphragm as the cause based on on your failure description or bad check valve in carb behind the primer bulb.

I can see Sears POV. How many people think they know what they're doing and really don't. Sears has no idea if you are qualified or not. If they just sent out parts, how many people would still screw up the repair and then blame Sears for a bad mower. Sears doesn't need any help in that area. 'To take it a bit farther, imagine the engine blew up. would you expect them to send you a new engine, no questions asked? It's just a different degree of the same thing.

I have a briggs presure washer and had the same problem. Untill I realised you must push the primer very swiftly. A slow smooth complete push did sweet f all. But a swift push would work everytime.

my only complaint was the bad additude from sears. I should not have to "demand a refund" to get a sears truck out here. I am not a delivery service. I only go to sears once a year and if I have to go back(twice) on a new defective mower, I want a refund.
I offered these fair ideas to sears.
1. come here and fix it
2. supply parts; i'll fix it
3. give refund.
I think I bent over backwards offering to fix it FOR THEM. Their initial DEMAND that I return it so they can send it out led to #3.

Now where do I (not) buy a new heat pump for my house?

i called sears and the lady reads the warranty to me! DUH! IT's NEW.
BY LAW IT HAS TO WORK OR I GET A REFUND.

Warranties always read repaired or replaced at manufactures descretion.

I'm bugging out on future comments to this thread because you are simply looking for a fight or one of those people who would complain of paying taxes if someone gave you a million bucks.
