Just an update a New company bought the TEC engine devision and they will be producing the TEC engines and all parts. So no need to worry engine and parts will be available as before.

The LB aluminum deck commercial was available with a B&S engine within the last few years, so that would be my direction if it I were to swap in a 4-cycle. The best way is probably to find a good used Duraforce to replace yours, at least the short block.

I have never heard of a duraforce engine. I will keep an eye out for one. I am assuming the engine should be a plug and play with the proper shaft lengh. thanks

All the 2cycle lawnboys had the duraforce for the last 5-10 years (don't remember for how long) of the 2 cycle

I'd repower with a 2 stroke if it's possible. Not sure what will bolt on that deck. I'm clueless after the 4 strokes went on them.

Is the Duraforce engine that different then the B&S Quantum engine.

The duraforce IS a two cylce engine. Maybe that's why it's seized up? Where you mixing your oil/gas?

Shoot I didn't even see it was a dura force. I wasn't paying attention.

The exact same engine was on all their 2-cycle mowers from about 2000 to 2004. Look for a Dura Force from an aluminum deck and it drops in. The one from the steel deck has a different mounting plate, so you'd have to use yours.

Hey sax, will the steel decked duraforces fit on other steel deck from the 4 cycle LB's? I've got a 10323 with a rough and rusty deck and a 10272 with a perfect deck. Whatcha think?

That is a 22261, well worth putting another 2 stroke engine onboard. As others have stated you can get a cheap steel deck mower and just transfer the base plate over and drive pulley and let her rip. Same base engines on all of them. Id love to find one like that to fix up. I have a home made one now. Love it.

bear: they were all the same decks, so you should be able to make the 2-cycle fit.

I may have some time, Can you guys recommened a 4 cycle engine, I already have a buyer for the Lawnboy if it has a 4-cycle. I was thinking on mounting a 5-hp honda engine I can buy those for $179 Canadian$$. I like restoring and re-powering mowers with newer engines. I will post a picture of the Hasgvaran I just completed it has a the Aluminium deck and a nice B&S engine.

I think that's a Suzuki. There is someone on here who did this swap and it worked out real good.

You may be correct on the Suzuki engine I would love to hear from the guys that did the converation. I am hopping it's plug and play
