Lawn Boy R8035AE Electric Starter Motor

I believe my starter motor is shot. It runs but I have to jump start my mower with a battery charger to get enough current to the starter to turn the engine over. I first thought it was the battery so I tried a 4 wheeler battery and ended up with the same result. I think the bushings inside the motor are causing the armature to drag on the magnets. I also checked my crank, it's not bent. I removed the self-propell pto shaft to see if it was draging the engine down, that did not work. I removed the electric motor and cleaned the commutator and re-greased the gears.. I am running into a dead end.

Anyone know where I can find a new start for less than $100 or ideas on how to fix the one I have?

Is it possible to convert to a pull start? I would rather keep it electric, but if it is going to break the bank to repairing or replacing it, I'll convert.

Luck would have it, I may have two bad batteries; I'll find another tomorrow to try.
