another fwd or rwd question

After a couple of years in an apartment, time to buy a house and start over. Small lot (1/4 acre total, minus the house and average-plus amount of mulched area), very flat, some maneuvering (between a tree and fence, for example). Last time I did this I had one of the terrible Lawn Boys (offset front, 2 cycle). The LB was RWD. I found that I mainly used the self-propelled to get motion started after turning around or maneuvering around a mail box, so I am used to decoupling.

As I look to purchase new, I have searched and read the two camps. It seems like from the worn wheels of FWD the technique is to never release the drive - just lift the front and pivot and then drop back down again? Is this how the tires wear from spinning?

I ask because I think the trend is for small flat yard to go FWD. Not sure if I will bag or mulch.

In the end, does it really matter which drive wheels?
