help posting links to gardenweb
Comments (4)For clickable links on Firefox, I use the free BBCodeXtra add-on (recommended by a GWebber some years back). Just paste into the Message box the address you want to make into a clickable link, then use the mouse to highlight the address, right-click on the highlighted area, hover the mouse over xhtmlXtra in the pop-up box (this pop-up is simply a larger version of the pop-up which you have now, with Copy, Paste, etc.), then left-click on URL in the next pop-up box. And that's it. If you don't use Firefox, you can add the html yourself. Make a document in MS Word (or whatever you use) with the html code. Then whenever you want to make a clickable link, open up that word-processing document, copy the html code in that document, paste it into your GW message, and add the url you want to link to. It's a bit tricky to put that in this post so the html is visible; let's see if this works: (a href="address of the web page you want to link to")name of the link(/a) But replace ( with the "less than" symbol which is on your keyboard when you shift with the comma key. And replace ) with the "greater than" symbol which is on your keyboard when you shift with the period key. address of the web page you want to link to needs to include http:// (or https://). name of the link is simply how you want the clickable link to appear in your post. You can give it a name or simply have the entire url appear. In BBCodeXtra, the url will show up there, but you can remove that part and put in whatever you want. In Preview, what you see is what will be there in the final post. So photos should be visible in Preview, links should work in Preview, etc. If it's not working in Preview, there's a problem you need to fix. === GW has a Test subforum where you can try things out. You can find it linked at the bottom of this page. Unfortunately, it seems the mods are now deleting old posts there, so you can't see helpful comments on past posts. There's also a Computer Help subforum where folks sometimes make test posts. Good luck!...See MoreQuestion about posting links
Comments (6)And if you want a little link, go to the unmentionable site where you can turn your long address into a smaller one, but I can't post the name: Spam Alert: In order to fight spam, we need your cooperation! Comments (1)IMHO, in some cases it 'might' be fine, and in other cases not so fine. If you could think of it as similar to going to the Weight Watchers Forum, and posting a link to a recipe on the Jenny Craig Forum, then I would say, that it wasn't all right. On the Gardenweb garden forums, I know we are not permitted to link to (or make mention of) other gardening forums, though we can link to other gardening sites. Linking to other 'similar' forums could then result in the loss of membership (revenue) here, iykwim. You might try asking at The Contact Us link and see if you get a reply about it. Comments (24)NANA: It was a nice trip through your album. Now I remember - those wonderful stepping stones you mosaiced for a border around your front street corner - WONDERFUL again. AND that beautiful birdbath - the one that looks purpleish w/the rock in the center. And, my favorite - the shelf!!! Good work, girlie. You sound soooooooo busy all the time....See Morealbert_135 39.17°N 119.76°W 4695ft.
