Anyone know about this plant?

Zebra Shrimp Manchurian Justica is the way its described on ebay. But when I google it, I only find references to Zebra Aphelandra. The ebay ad says it is "newly arrived." Says nothing about how large the plant gets at maturity. Says its a good house plant, likes good drainage and to be moist, but that's about it. It looks very attractive, and I'd like to try one indoors, if it doesn't get monstrous. Anyone seen one of these, or grow them? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

As far as I can tell, it's a Justicia. In your area, these shrubs are fine outdoors.

Frankly, I'd be cautious. Couldn't find any mention of the size plant/pot. And the seller is very good at creating new names for other plants also.

Hmmm. I didn't scroll down the page. (sigh)

Seems that the $7.99 (plus shipping) plant is "growing in a 2 1/2" pot and about 4" tall."

You could find a much larger plant for the same or less money at local garden centers, but perhaps not right now. Call a few and ask when they arrive, what sizes, and the cost.

It looks like Brocchinia Reducta to me. This also grows in South America. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brocchinia_reducta The only other heliamphora that lives on gran sabana I think is H. sarracenioides.

Well, you got some mature ones so they might actually start to turn color. If one does, the seeds "should" still be viable even with a slight tint of color. Cool temps will inhibit growth but the mature ones should continue to ripen. As far as bringing them inside with aphids, easily remedied. Blasts of water every 3 days until you get rid of them. Insecticidal soap or neem oil... same thing. Just make sure you rinse off the soap a few hours later. Ripen like maters? No. There are many varieties that will continue to change color after being harvested, but it's not the same process(ethylene) as maters. Rotting usually takes hold before fully "ripening." Kevin

#3 is not a Kung Pao, but the pictures do look similar. This chili is much smaller, about an inch long and extremely hot. It beats all the "Thai Chili" that I have purchased in the past 10 months in heat and flavor. naturegirl, I did purchase seedlings. I did a little pruning on number #2 when it was 3 feet tall, other than that, I haven't touched them. #1 looked about as strange as it does today, #2 had not branched out yet, but was tall with a thick stalk. It is now over 4 feet tall and is thicker than my thumb. I don't recall hearing of any chili varieties that grow like this, especially in such a short time.

Thank you, Jean, for replying. Problem is, in my area, unusual or interesting plants are few and far between. My local Lowe's, HD and garden centers seem to have only very common plants (loads of pothos, peace lilies and spiders mostly) and I've rarely seen anything even slightly out of the ordinary. I signed up to receive notices of when Exotic Angel will deliver in my area, so am hoping I might be able to eventually find one that way. I want one to grow indoors exclusively - I don't grow anything outdoors except iris, since my climate is BONE DRY and the soil is sandy, and the summers just BAKE plants. Thanks again!

I can't help with the plant ID, but I can help with Ebay info. I love to buy plants on ebay. I don't find many of the plants I like in the garden centers near me, and I also find that Ebay sellers are pretty fair in their pricing. I like the sellers that ship additional plants for practically no extra shipping charge. I actually bought a hoya which was nice and well established, and it was shipped in the pot, and I paid around $5 for it and $7.50 for shipping....that alone is a good deal...but I also bought additional plants, which were also $5 each and only 50 cents for shipping each. To me, that's a great deal.

Let me get to my point. I've bought from Hirtsgardens (if that's which buyer you're referring to...that's the only one I found with that plant name you gave). They sold me a Saxifraga Stolonifera, also called "strawberry begonia", and it was shipped very well and the plant is gorgeous. The only thing I would warn you of is that you most likely won't be getting the plant in the picture. I got a pretty young plant compared to the one in the picture, but it now looks even better than the pic! My advice is to just ask the seller the questions you have...I'm sure they'll answer you. If not, then you don't want to buy from them anyway.

Yes, Gabi, its Hirt's Gardens that is offering the plant. I have ordered from them before, and been pretty happy with what I got. I didn't, however, realize that they often mislabel their plants. What a bummer. I did email them about the plant nearly a week ago, and have not received an answer. Oh well, guess I'll pass on it. Appreciate your help.
