What are your favorite sites

for houseplant information?

I'm customizing a Google Search Engine for gardeners that's geared towards locating information that the gardener needs. Often times when searching for something most of the results I find are for sites that are selling something when what I need is growing or propagation info. I've already gone through my bookmarks so I thought I'd ask around.

Do you have a favorite site, maybe one maintained by a plant society that you like to visit for info? Maybe a site created and maintained by a serious plant lover about something plant specific like propagation or crossing or care for uncommon houseplants?

What do you have in your bookmarks?

Was it Sutton's? A google search will turn up their site. There is also Napa Iris. I think my favorite commercial sites are Snowpeak and BlueJ Iris due to the information, pics & large choice.

Well, I got everything in the cabinets and drawers. I know things will get moved around but it's functional for now. I need some drawer dividers and something to make lids and such stand up, and a couple more of the racks to stand up trays and pans. I had hoped to get rid of a counter top utensil caddy at the stove, but I didn't quite have enough drawer space there. So I rescued the nicest one from the Goodwill pile. I know I have at least a little more kitchen stuff somewhere since I didn't find the salt & pepper, but that would have been thrown in an odd box at the last minute. My mental inventory doesn't reveal any big items. One major lifesaver was the blind corner cabinet, which opens the other way into the dining room. It's HUGE. It's also hard to get to, but it was perfect for small appliances, like the dehydrator. I had other plans for that cabinets, but oh well. Sadly, some things, like the big chef's pan, take up a whole drawer by itself. I did weed out a few things -- including some cookware. For the utensils and such I spread them all out on the counter and for each piece asked myself, "do you remember the last time you used this?" I only ended up with a pretty small pile of "nos" and "yes, but do I really need an olive pick?" I guess every bit helps. I feel a little embarrassed at myself. It wasn't so many years ago when I would have gone crazy over a kitchen with this much storage.

I like Lee Valley, which is a Canadian company. I find their print hardware catalogue, which you can request or read online, to be easier to navigate than the website, especially for browsing. LOL. You know I saw your first link and it was highlighted and I thought "Gee I've already been on that site today" so I clicked it and thought "this site looks soooooo familiar."

Oh man my eyes hurt from viewing so many sites today.

Thanks for those links. By any chance to do you compost? Last year I saw a little site (nothing flashy) about compositing that was made by a long time member but I just realized I didn't save it. And searching around GW hasn't helped me locate the link

Everytime i need to look up a plant, i always go to Wikipedia. May sound wierd, but im sure most of the plant articles on the site are written by plant freaks like me and you.

I don't think I'd go by Wikipedia's info. as I hear tell that it can be edited by just about anybody. Don't think that would necessarily make for correct plant advice.

I don't have favorite sites per say, but in a pinch:

Desert-tropicals.com

can be helpful. It's known to have some errors, but then again has other advantages like a C&S section & listings both by common names AND botanical names.

wiki was one of the first ones I put on it. I agree they have a wealth of knowledge and the varieties of plants is what keeps me going back.
