My first attempt at painting a discarded dish that I curb shopped. I will make a tripod to hold it up. It will be given to my son in law. He's an avid hunter so I'm hoping he will like it

ahh...this project is exactly what i wanted to make when i first joined and saw one. and i haven't found a decent satt. dish yet!!!it doesn't matter to me if it's the solid fiberglass or the mesh. one of these days i'll get my hands on one! wish i lived near you, but i'm down by the beach in mississippi! kudzu

I think what you really have is RG62, which was an odd coax used in some early Ethernet applications and has a 93 ohm impedance. While in many applications, "wire is wire", it's not the same when carrying an RF signal. While it could work, I'd just use RG6 or RG6 quad, with a 75 ohm impedance, and not have to worry about it.

6 TV's in 6 different rooms...figuring out satellite dish...help!

We have dish network and a 2 story house. For a while, the dish receiver in the upstairs bedroom, operated a TV in there and also a small TV we had in the kitchen. The remote for the receiver is RF and it had no problem controlling the receiver upstairs, which was quite a distance. We have since, built in an entertainment center in our family room with a 52" Sharp Aquos, easily seen and heard from the kitchen, so we don't use that RF setup, anymore, except for the spare bedroom, and it still works well. The RF controlled receiver is NOT HD, so hopefully they have such a receiver, but we don't really need the HD in the spare bedroom. HTH's Gary

We have mounted ours onto the fascia at the gable peak. Its high enough to receive over the trees without roof holes. Our previous one was mounted low with landscaping. It became a pain because anytime there was high winds it would blow the landscaping into the dish and disrupt the signal...also mush more noticeable and they are not pretty to look at.

Very gorgeous thing!
I have a dish and want to paint it (I don't have any experience in painting :) )
What paint did you use to be able to keep it outdoor?
I just want to create "sun" to keep in my garden, but not sure what paint to buy.

Cool! That's really fancy.

@briergardener: when I made mine, I sprayed it first with a primer then used regular acrylic paints. Then I sealed it with a spray seal suited for outdoor use.

I made mine about 9 years ago and it's still bright and colorful.
