Yeah... not the best time of year to plant out trees.... In fact -- it's probably the worst time of year possible to plant out trees.... especially when it's 100F outside...

Dormancy is a plant's last ditch safety mechanism.... You are seeing the tree go into super-duper stress mode...

Water it every day... Expect it will probably still drop it's leaves.. Hopefully, it will make it and you will see leaves next spring.....

The traditional time for planting out stuff like that is Fall before the frost or spring when the buds are starting to pop....

With the heat wave we are having here in the south, I would be watering those trees every day, (as long as they are not going to sitting in very wet, (muddy) soil). If your soil is very sandy and drains extremely well, you really should be watering them every day; until they become fully established, then you can cut back on the watering. Right now I'd prune out the dead branches, and remember to keep watering well until at least the end of August...maybe longer.....

Yea planting during the summer in a hot climate is not optimal. Some of your trees may fail.

In hot climates Fall dormant planting is the only way to go. That way your trees have time to develop a healthy root system before they get pounded by the summer heat.

The water should go directly into the original rootball. Also, consider rigging temporary shade.

Shade is a savior for stressed transplants but sounds like it's too late if leaves are no longer functional.

Commercial nurseries sometimes save plants in that kind of stress by keeping them misted and shaded.

If anything will survive this treatment it is probably pomegranates. Cuttings stuck in the ground root without much care. So even if they lose all their leaves they may come back when it cools off.

Here in Texas pomegranates are planted in the hottest driest climates. That's where they do best. They are watered some but they do love dry heat.
