trying to post pics, not having much luck, This is my 6th time, it keeps locking up,(feel like such a dork!!), you guys give great instructions, I dont know what I'm doing wrong, (boo-hoo!) We are having storms here now and we have lost power a few times, but I just think its because I'm blonde or something on my part for it to keep locking up! Keep your fingers and toes crossed! blessings-sherri

Well, you did it! I just learned today how to do it too. DOn't feel bad!! Ha ha ha. Your place looks great. Don't you just love using this forum. I am not the type to use such a thing but by sharing your pictures and with people commenting, you get a sense of belonging and pride. I just love it. I love your Grandma's gate the best.

JG-- The cuttings you show above that you put into your mix are normal, in my opinion. The roots you had previously are too mangled and stuck together to do much more growing in gritty mix, in my opinion. I've had some like this coming out of peat mix soils and for those, whereas others, I was able to cleanly pull apart, prune and plant as is. For yours, I'd have snipped off the roots, pulled off the leaves below the new roots and stood them in gritty mix. As you can see, forming roots in GM is not an issue, as shown by the new roots you have. A month or two like this and you have a fully established cutting. I have not used anything but Turface with GM since reading Al's posts, but it seems a lot of people claim the Napa product works just as well. Screening Turface, in my opinion, is THE most important step as those small bits can really make for a mess. The gritty mix will hold water, and despite how gritty it is, you still need to control watering. I don't think I can overwater to the point of drowning a plant to death like I could in regular potting mixes but I am certain I could overwater some succulents still, to the point of them not being at their best. Case in point: these were from two different small pots I bought where these particular cuttings were really hopeless as far as roots go. Just one small blob that I couldn't separate, so I chopped them off and put them into gritty mix with a couple other cuttings I took. I must water these once a week indoors or so and they look happy, as happy as plants can look anyway. Lol. FWIW, the mix is fir bark, screened Turface and small pebbles as I could not find chicken grit to save my life. Apparently, raising chicken is not popular in SF, haha. :-) I did find crushed granite but it was way too much dust for my liking. Good luck and I wouldn't toss the Napa stuff just yet! :-) Grace

Sorry, its taken so long to get back to y'all. I was at work all day. About midway through the day, I started really regretting posting this, mostly out of an ostrich type reaction. Not wanting to hear from other people, what I already kind of knew myself. I do eventually expect him to get a job during college. I just kind of thought he might need at least a semester to get back into the swing of school. I mean, I have two jobs and go to school full time. So, I don't at all think that going to school precludes one from having to work. But then, I went straight from high school to college without any breaks. I just thought he might need a little while to adjust. But maybe the situation does not really give him any room to adjust and he will just have to sink or swim. I didn't really think that getting a reduction in child support was a realistic option (or even a very responsible one, I guess I was just hoping to make things easier for myself, because I doubt I would be able to manage to pay it for him on top of everything else I already have to pay for). About my parents...They know that I am planning on moving in with him. And they are ok with that. But I haven't told them my plans about me basically financing his return to school. My parents have told me point-blank that they don't want me paying his child support, so I haven't told them about my plans. More of the head in the sand maneuver, I guess. I do, I think, know that I am getting myself into a hard situation. I'm really scared that I am going to put myself in a position that basically eliminates any chance of me being able to do what I want in life careerwise. There is no school in the state of Arkansas (where he lives)that even offers my major and I really need to go to grad school to be able to get to the higher levels of my field. The nearest one is the school that I already go to and that's eight hours away. But at the same time I can't imagine my future without him.

oh...WOW. And WOW. I felt like a kid in a candy store.
EYE candy. I've already looked at everything twice, bookmarked your album, and plan to put some things in our Inspiration Album. This is great. Can you tell I LOVE it. I want to come hang out there. Hard to pick a favorite, too many. But stacking those three old wood benches is right at the top. Daisy, you rock!!

slr8, until I stumbled on this forum a couple of years ago, I was never one to use such a thing either. What a dull world I lived in, LOL. Especially thinking I was just plain weird for liking yard stuff. But everyone here becomes more like family. This is such a caring, supportive, fun group. I HAVE to check in here a couple of times a day to see what the latest is. As far as I'm concerned, GJ and these folks ARE "chicken soup for the soul". I love getting to know them even better over on the Conversation side where we can share anything at all.

I'm so glad you and Daisy joined in, and all the other newbies. What great additions to 'our family' here.

daisydal..I'm so glad you got the picture thing worked out. I love your pictures! Ditto on the lady bugs. Did you buy them somewhere, or did you make them? Love the gate....I'm a sucker for them. Have two myself but am always on the lookout for more.

Daisy, You done real well with those photos. I love your place! Now, I've just got to ask, ---that big ol' big momma star on your front porch--is that made of tin or wood? I have me a big red star on my front porch too! BUT, mine is a made in china one from Big Lots. One day while I was waiting for my work to end us Noon Duty Aides at work wait out in front of the school where all the kids are. We have a giant flagpole with the US and the California State flag up there. I was noticing our state flag and just noticed the red star on it wiht the grizzly bear. Well, I got to thinking about that star and wondered what it represented. So, I Goggled it. The red star is in imitation of the yellow star on the Texas flag. So, I thought, hum, I need a big red star on my front porch. "The Red Star of California". It's so neat to see a kindred spirit witht he star! :-)

Love the red trim and everything about your house. I think we ought to figure a way to PAINT our hoses and then wheb we leave them out we can juist tell everyone its ART! LOL!

THANK YOU, MY FRIENDS!You are all soooo kind and just reading all of your comments justs confirms one thing-I AM TRULY HOME HERE!! I have such fun creating my outdoor "heavens"! I work 9 hrs a day M-F so I dont get to do the garage sales anymore, (tears rolling), but thats ok, I get to relive the thrill and excitement of the chase w/ all of you!For all of you that asked about the ladybugs, wish I could say I made them, but alas, Tender Heart Treasures has my money for those. They were quite pricey, but I was drooling over them for about a month, when the hail took alot of my pretties, I decided to treat myself! But everytime there is a storm watch, they get rolled into the house!!(spoiled little bugs, arent they?)
I do alot of shopping in Jenks,OK. There are some great antique and flea market type shops w/ tons of stuff.That is where I got the benches. The big star is made of tin and I have 3, one on the back and one on the north side.thx again, my kind friends,(and for loving my red trim)! Now, if I could just decide what color to paint that hose, hmmmm....... blessings-sherri

I am so glad you figured out how to post your pictures! Like so many others, I love that great big red star on the porch. But my favorite is Miss Beatrice! I also like how you have put pretty birdcages in the garden too. You have a beautiful garden and home! (Love the vegetable garden too!)

What do you want to bet that someone around here will figure out how to make similar ladybugs out of something like maybe an old small kettle-shaped BBQ lid?

I just love your welcoming house with the red shutters and the birdie condos (I LOVE birdhouses) and especially that you have your grandnmother's gate. That's really special. Lucky you. I really enjoyed your photos and look forward to returning when I have a lot of time to look around some more!
