I'm sorry your coworker was so clueless. He/she should only be allowed to have fake plants from now on! Take a sharp scissors and trim the leaves back into shape and wait, like naturelover suggested. I have a client who used two of these as DOORSTOPS to outside for an office lobby during a power outage from an ice storm because the fancy electric card keys wouldn't work!! It was about 18 degrees and WINDY when I found them. The one on the less windy side of the building only had some spots, the windier one had lots of brown leaves and one whole head was crispy. Needless to say, the client will be paying to replace them.

I think you just need to be patient. You say you've noticed some root growth. (The roots look perfectly healthy to me.) Often, when you pot up a plant, it will devote its energy to growing a larger root system first, before putting out new top growth. Once your plant has filled most of the pots with roots, it will probably start growing leaves at a quicker pace. My Lemon Lime Dracaena grew very quickly. My secret? I left it in its old pot until the plant outgrew it completely before potting up.

Hi Nat..what size is the pot? The leaves that haven't any brown look most colorful, but D. Lemon-Limes prefer a bit more light than most Dracaenas. Lack of sufficient light is one reason it's (a bit) spindly. How much fertilizer do you use? Dracaenas don't need much fertilzier since they're slow-growing. Especially if you're using chemical fertlizers and/or the plant isn't getting much sun. Overfertilizing can cause leaves to brown. If you feel the pot is too large, (more than 1-2" surface between rootball and inner pot) then underpot. I think your pot is clay which helps soil dry out faster. My Lemon-Lime soil dries out more than 2" from the top before given a drink. Soil should feel crumbly between waterings. It's a good idea keeping water in a container at least 24 hours before watering. I save old milk containers filled with water, then when plants are thirsty, just pour..Refil milk container for future use. If it was my Lemon-Lime, I'd remove all brown leaves. Any brown edges should be clipped, but leave about 1/8" brown on plant, otherwise it might spread. Unpot and check roots..if pot is too big, plant would go in a smaller, plastic container. Although Peat works for acidic loving plants, instead of peat I'd use All Purpose Soil and Perlite.. Every leaf, top and bottom, would be inspected for insects. And we can't forget to check soil. After repotting, plant would go in the sink/shower and get hosed. Misting helps with humidity and keeps foliage free of dust. If you're running A/C this time of year, the air is dry. If you're not into misting then hose in sink/shower once a week. Last, place Lemon-Lime in a brighter area..It doesn't need direct south or west summer sun, (west or south is perfect in winter) but a little direct, plus bright light keeps colors pronounced. Always, for some reason I can't open your picture. Is anyone else having this problem?? I re-read what I wrote about over-watering. Over-watering can harm most plants, other than bogs. In summer, when sun is strong or rooms/outdoors is hot, Dracaenas should be watered thoroughly, but allowed to dry somewhat between drinks. Heat, harsh, summer sun and too dry soil will cause brown tips/leaves. Some plants are fussy about chlorine..I keep old milk containers filled with tap water. Too many plants to use bottled water, lol. Always, Fungus Gnats attack when soil stays constantly wet, air is dry, too humid, and stuffy. Apparently, the soil wasn't drying between waterings which brought on gnats. Changing soil was a great idea. But, in order to keep gnats away, soil really needs to dry between waterings, moreso now that winter is approaching. Gray days/low light, stuffy air, 'indoors.' They'll return. Mari..if the stem broke, might as well cut it off. It will continue drying until dead. Draceanas root well in water or soil. I prefer water. Remove broken branch a little below the break. Depending on height, the branch can be either cut in 8" sections or as is. BTW, this will work on wood, not leaves. Also, if you decide to root, cut bottom leaves. They can rot, espeically if rooted in water. Good luck, Toni
