New Fittonia dying/wilting
Comments (44)Did you read through this thread? These are moisture loving plants & I know I have personally stated in this thread that I've only succeeded in growing these in Terrariums or the bathroom next to my Shower. Short answer, no I don't think you can take the bottle off w/out the plant wilting again. They really need high humidity, Smart idea this bottle & nice job. Perhaps try to fund some glass vessel to use in place of the bottle for aesthetics (if you care abt that). So you're new to Houseplants? These aren't really beginner plants as you're discovering. Maybe pop over to the Terrarium Forum & do some reading. Don't know how active it is these days. These plants won't propagate from just individual leaves alone. You need to make tip cuttings which are cuttings comprised of at least 2 pairs of leaves for these plants. Put them in soil or moist Perlite & seal in w/ a dome or Cling plastic like Saran to conserve their moisture....See MorePlease advise, my plumeria are dying.
Comments (21)My god!! If you only have a bout 3 inches at the top not soft, I am afraid that is to little to cut and to try to root. Man. I wish you had caught it earlier. So you are saying the whole thing but only 3 inches is soft to almost mushy? If that is the case, it is too late to save. I would not even water it. The last resort you have is to take it out of that soil, sink it in bleach water like I said and let it dry off completely. Then see if it is still mooshy. If so just toss it. They say you should have at least a 6-8 inch cutting to be able to develope roots. I don't know about only three inches of a healthy cutting. I never heard of rooting a cutting that small. maybe someone here has and will let you know if it is possible. I hope it works out for you!!...See MoreOn to dining room windows -- please advise me!
Comments (6)Holly Kay - Very interesting idea. It would work even better if I carried the theme around the room under the picture rail. Maybe one day when I'm more ambitious. Annie - DH kept thinking sheers, too. Were you thinking natural/ivory/cream/trim color? All goes gray at night, so I'd have to make them really, really full to keep the color after dark, which is now 5:00 PM - half of life. Were you thinking apron length? NCS - We don't actually have to make room in the bay for a table, or furniture or a radiator, so I'm not restricted to flat treatment, and I think I'd rather have something fuller in the area because it's one of the few spaces in the house that's just open space and does not have to be dedicated to seating or storing. Rather, it can't be dedicated to another purpose, because it's a passage....See MoreDrooping/dried fittonia? Help please!
Comments (2)Fungus gnats are brought on by constantly wet or moist soil. The gnats themselves don't do any harm to the plants, just their larvae. But the larvae usually only affect young seedlings and to my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong) usually can't kill an established plant, but can affect it's roots. Thus I doubt the decline of your plants were the result of fungus gnats ,but by either over watering or using soil that doesn't drain properly. Do the pots have any drainage holes? I've never heard of using that mixture so cant really comment on how it might affect the plants. But I would assume it would have some negative affect on a plant if it wasn't allowed to drain away freely. I don't have any experience with fittonias so I'll let someone else chime in....See Morerhizo_1 (North AL) zone 7
