Squirrels Problem---Solution?

To stop squirrels from eating ALL the japanese plums on 2 dwarf trees, I read ideas here and tried a very simple solution.

I wrapped clear slippery plastic (from Home Depot) around the trunk as far up as possible (the first scaffold). Then, I slopped some motor oil on the plastic.

It worked. Zero squirrels. Never saw one even trying to climb a tree.

Some caveats. I only did 2 DWARF trees and only had 4 plums and 14 plums on the trees. Also think the oil had little to do with it as a lot of it rolls off the plastic.
