Preparations for next spring

Hello:

I have a small (4' x 10') vegetable garden where I plant a variety of vegetables including tomatoes, eggplant, squash, lettuce, etc. as well as a variety of herbs. In 2010 my tomato plants were hit with a blight (as was a large part of the east coast). The plants were placed in the trash (not the compost) and nothing was done to the soil. Last year the plants seemed to do a little better but they seemed to show some signs of blight again. I know there's no fix for blight, but I'm interested in suggestions to improve the soil so that the plants thrive in 2012. I was thinking of moving the tomato plants to another section of the garden, but since it's so small, I didn't think that would help much.

Anyone else having problems with tomatoes lately? Any recommendations to improve the soil?

Thank you,

Mike
