Score!!!!!!!!!

Our neighbors are moving to a warmer climate and were given a moving stipend from his new company. I've helped them and several neighbors plow out their driveways during 2 record snow storm years here in Washington State! Well, they blessed us with items they can't take as they've used up all of their moving stipend.

I am ECSTATIC with the treasures we received for NOTHING!!!! I'll post a few pictures soon! In the meantime, here's the list of items!!!! FREE!!!!!!

1 pair antique snowshoes

1 drop leaf, beautiful, wood, kitchen table

1 old metal watering can (Already using it!)

1 roof snow rake (WE NEED IT!!!!)

1 Pendleton wool blanket!!!

1 Ryobi, like new, weed wacker

1 new Stanley Mitre box in box

1 new portable work light

1 Coleman, Kerosene lantern

1 BIG bag of decorative bark

1 BIG bag of sand

1 BIG bag of ice melt (We need it too!!!)

2 new tomato cages

plant stakes

a heavy, pewterlike milk pitcher

saw horses (I was going to buy some soon!)

2 Bennington pottery bowls

1 Bennington pottery crock

1 pottery bowl with a moose on it

2 serving baskets with cloths

1 countertop, wood fruit basket

1 beautiful handwoven basket

Wow! WOW! WOW!!!!! Lots of ideas for outside and inside uses!!!! They said they donated lots to Goodwill...would have liked to "offer" to take their items to GW!!! Hee hee! We feel sooo spoiled. It's kind of a pay-it-forward reward.

Way to go Kirk. We always help our neighbors & they help us ... that's the way it should be. I have to laugh at some of the stuff you got .... they probably couldn't understand the the look on your face as they gave you some of their "junk" !!!

As for the "Pay it forward " - I truly believe in that . You've already done it with an exchange with me .... What I couldn't use - I forwarded it to someone who was excited to get it ... it was an awesome feeling.
Don't you wish this was the way the whole world worked ? *sigh*

You stay up there on Cloud 9 as long as you want ... you deserve it ! I couldn't be happier for you !!!

I used to grow callirhoe in a previous garden. It was a sprawler but flowered forever and I loved the color. I would definitely plant that again if I came across it. 'Ice Ballet' asclepias is fairly new to my current garden, but so far I am really liking it's vase shaped form. I see plenty of flower buds forming now, so I'm hopeful for a good show.

"Can this be fixed diy?" That depends upon the sophistication level and fussiness of the customer and the pride of the contractor. You could wax some shims the same thickness as the corner saw kerfs, fill the chips with gray anchoring epoxy, then pull the shims. You could fill the curved kerf with the same and have the saw cut made straight. You are always going to see these repairs. It is quite subjective as to how objectionable they will be. Some folks will say "Absolutely not!" while others set up the patio furniture and forget them. Were I the concrete guy, I'd bust it up and start over. No way would those pictures get on the interwebby with my name on them. I speak from experience: A month ago, my saw fence drifted and the flange on the sink wasn't wide enough to allow a square re-cut. No crap reveals on my jobs. Ever. The customers had to live with an improperly installed sink with blue masking tape covering the gap for a month while their custom made sink was fabricated. The original sink was an 18 gauge stock Kohler with zero radius corners. The replacement is a 14 gauge tank with radius corners. They didn't mind the wait and I didn't mind not having to replace a 5' x 12' granite island. I fix my screwups. They should too. P.S: An apron sink must be installed parallel to the cabinet front, not the countertop front edge, or the apron ends won't return to the cabinet without a visible gap. This countertop edge and cabinet aren't parallel; the left side of the sink extends past the countertop edge, the right is flush. I clipped the corners to fool your eye. Let's see if these guys have any tricks.

"I suspect that LEDs will improve over time, just like pretty much every other tech we've ever had." They can start with fixing the d*mn dimmer incompatibility problem!! And before someone says "you need to look at the specs to find a compatible dimmer" read what happened in my house just recently: Had *the exact same dimmer switches* installed in the kitchen, foyer, and hallway, which were chosen because the undercabinet lights buzzed with the original dimmers I put in the kitchen. Finally got everything worked out in there -- replaced the dimmers, no buzzing with can lights or overheads. Ok, great....NOT. Because the hallway buzzed -- with the *exact same can bulbs* and the *exact same dimmer* WTF!?!?! I ended up putting halogens in the hallway to solve the problem, I don't leave those on so will be a while before they burn out, and I have a few spares. I'm all for progress and saving the environment, but taking everything but LEDs off the market isn't the way to go, people should have choices. I don't like the light quality of LEDs as much as halogen (or incandescent), but worse is it can make people physically uncomfortable or ill -- I have read reports of people getting headaches from LEDs. I have very acute hearing and can pick up buzzing other people have told me they can't hear -- I can't take the buzzing, even if it's faint enough where others can't hear it, it's enough to make me want to take a sledgehammer to the light fixtures. That is not progress in my book.
