Comments (5)Here are some photos I took today-no annuals in yet (except old pansies from last season) but it's finally warming up... My balcony faces North but gets lots of sun anyway as we're on the top floor of an old house. Please excuse the blue bowl-I was removing aquarium plants and forgot I had them outside. The balcony (except the coldframe in SW corner): And views of the West, North and East sides, respectively:...See MorePost your snowy palm pics here.
Comments (23)Hello Everyone!!! You all up north really were hit extra hard...I can't believe you have 4-5 feet! Unbelievable weather.. We did hit a record for VB, 14 -15 inches...and every thing is shut down...back roads are still a mess..the main streets are still down to one lane.... Trishmick...I know what you mean about working for FedEx, my brother and I had a small franchise with Airborne Express 10-15 years ago...and had 10 or so routes. Those years were the best that i can remember..as far as being in great shape! My hat is off to you and what you do for us...hope the snow melts fast for you, but with that much snow it will probably take a while. Be extra careful all of you up north Thinking of all of you on this snowy day!!! Laura in VB...See MoreLilacs, please post your veggie pics here
Comments (10)All of the zucchinis and all of the melons are dead. And my volunteer All Blue potato looks done for, too. I sprayed the pyrethrin, but either it was too late, or it didn't phase the bugs. Anyone see Starship Troopers? Or read the book? Was Heinlein a gardener? Maybe this is where he got the idea. The three remaining brassica in my raised bed are hanging in there. And I haven't seen any more leafminer damage. The potatoes are doing fairly well, except for one, a Carola. It sprouted, poked above the soil, then dried up and died, even though I took pains to keep the bed watered. I doubt if it'll come back. I bought a new hose, and it's a dang site better than carting a watering can all over the yard. Especially since, on my last attempt to drag home soil from Home Depot, I threw out my right elbow, and now it's painful to lift things. I harvested all of the fall-planted garlic. I guess they're curing in my dining room, which smells of eau de allium. My vacation's basically over, so I'll have to wait until this next weekend to do anything with them. I put the last of the tomatoes, a San Marzano, in a container outside. I buried it deep, about 70% of it underground. I also put some purple basil with it. I took the peat pots off of both of them, so we'll see if that makes a difference. None of my sunflowers are coming up. I planted four more seeds outside today. I told myself that when I got done with the yard and the garden, I'd start a thorough cleaning of the house. When that started looking ship shape, I'd go out shopping and maybe to a movie. I never quite got done with the yard. And I've got, um, 15 minutes left of my vacation? Sigh. Oh, well....See MorePost your rose bush pics here!
Comments (16)Hi, allencia, we're neighbors! I'm in St. Clair Shores! If you're looking for good advice on roses for your area you need to contact the Grosse Pointe Rose Society. Better yet come to our rose show on Saturday at Weigands Nursery on Romeo Plank Rd. just north of 21 Mile Rd. There will be lots of people there who can help you and there will be lots of roses for sale to pick from! I'll be there all day. If you like come early (8:00 am) and I'll help you enter some of those beautiful roses I see in your pictures. All you have to do is cut some of your pretties with as long a stem as you can and do not pull off the leaves. I'll help you with the rest. You'll have a blast! Ask for Sharon!...See Moreblueboy1977
