Zucchini blossoms in the morning

slashy

I've been hand-fertilising my zucchini plants, which has been very successful, but I'm wondering what the deal is with the fact that the female blossoms only ever seem to be open quite early in the morning. Do other people notice this? It makes it tricky to pollinate them since they only seem to be open for one day in a very limited window of time (no wonder the bees have trouble!).

I'm also wondering if people have any info on if it's worth hand-pollinating a blossom that's closed up after opening that morning? How much leeway do you have with viable pollen etc?

Thanks as ever,

Slashy
