Repurposed spice rack & tiles

This spice rack was falling apart & I needed some support for some carolina jasmine.Other side of bed I used wire part of election sign to support a lily.

the bottom bag of mortor mix got wet after the rains so Maxey mixed it up & put it on top of our brick & rock border for the kitchen herb garden. Someone had given me bags of sample tiles so we pushed them into the wet mix..not the best pic, Im still learning the camera

Leftover & cut pieces of tile from different jobs Maxey brought home.Each "patchwork" is one bag mortor mix with tiles put on/in it. Funny, for 4 years I've been begging him to bring home odds & ends from jobs. Since he got so much feedback from his bench & arbor he's been bringing home all kinds of stuff...Thanks you guys !!!

Hey Maxie, I picked up a half truck load of slate left over from a ladies tiling DIY job. I love it and plan to grout it onto some concrete 12"X 12" step stones. I'm hoping they will look as good as yours does.

Jitterbug, Your accent iron pieces make your garden plants look super!!!!! That took imagination!!! Great projects you two.

Mine are mostly small things -- like using a glass compote to hold cotton balls in the bathroom -- or a cut glass tumbler to hold q-tips. A hinged CD holder (similar to the tissue box above but a double version) used as a spot to store extra TP. I have a dresser that is a TV stand for our exercise room and the drawers have my gift wrap rolls and ribbons. A home office armoire that was going to be my craft and gift wrap station became a china cabinet when my dad moved and I suddenly acquired another set of china and crystal and I wasn't ready to make decisions on getting rid of anything. I have an old radio cabinet that I cleaned up and planned to put a new shelf and door in the top, but the stained glass panel hasn't been made. I'm thinking about painting it and redirecting it's new life for another room now. Another one I haven't done buy we've talked about a couple of times is to put a pull out bed in a window seat to add a guest bed in our gameroom. I think the inflating mattresses are going to keep that one from happening -- take less room and are probably cheaper and more comfortable now that we no longer have a sofa with the pullout mechanism to repurpose. If a new thread is started, we should try to link this one at the top so these ideas and photos aren't lost -- st least as long as we can.

You've got a lot of really great feedback but after reading through the posts I'm inspired to post as well :-) So, yes, in agreement with those who say close to the stove, I strongly recommend the drawers or cabinet close to the stove. Considering that most spices are added during "cooking" phase and not "prep" or "finishing" phase, it's better to have them close to the stove.

Well, you sure have a nice start there. Love the room, it's a very nice laundry room and your neutral palette will make accesorizing, a snap. If you read the forum you know I'm no deorator so I don't have that much to offer. Sorry. As for art, you could to to Art.com or any of those art/photo sites and search for laundry room art. I was surfing it the other day. There is some really precious artwork out there. Like I said, with your neutral palette, almost anything would go in terms of colors in artwork. Did you do a search of all the forums for "laundry room" or "laundry"? Also, did you search the gallery side of this forum? There is a thread of photo's of just laundry rooms. Good luck,

Base Spice P.O. next to oven . . . is heat an issue?

I wouldn't put a spice cabinet beside an oven. I know the ovens are insulated. But nonetheless, when I stand in front of my ovens (I have 3) I feel the heat. As a matter of fact, the floor tile in front of my Double/Single oven get's warm when the bottom oven has been on. Spices and oils shouldn't get warm and cool, warm and cool in my opinion. Are you putting in an island? I have my spices in a 7' deep cabinet that I put at the end of our island facing the range. It works great for us.

I love the pavers! They are interesting and look aged. I like things that aren't all symetrical and perfectly organized (possibly because I am incapable of such work - lol). Great repurpose of the spice rack. I would never have known that was what it was in a former life. Now if I would have had all that mortar, I would have been breaking every plate in sight to add to it! lol! I don't know how well you can see the picture at Candance Bahouth's web site (see link below). She has a picture of a stone wall on which she mosaiced a section in blue. It almost looks like a waterfall. At her site, click on "slideshow of work" on the right side of the screen. The stone wall is about 14 pictures through the slideshow. Don't click through too fast! You will definitely want to see her mosaiced shoes!

Your DH sounds like a great guy for a junker to have around!

Luna..WOW...that Candance does some beautiful mosaic work...love that waterfall idea too..cant imagine how many hours went into that.
Susie...bet that slate will look great on some stepping stones..after that beauiful mosaic bowling ball you did, I'm envious!!
We're trying to make a walkway into the shop..so slowly but surely..sadly, out of mortor now, til the next job.
