Glass Flower Project

So....about 2 years ago I was searching the forums to learn how to kill ground squirrels and came upon this forum. I've been a Junkie ever since. After 2 years of collecting glass I finally had enough to start a project.

The winds here are so strong that I thought staking the flowers wouldn't work so I decided to drill and mount to a wall.

Eventually I want to make the stems out of copper pipe the way DKarch did but that's a whole project in itself. Maybe in a couple years when we paint the house I will go that route but for now I just used spray paint.

Maybe you should post of pic of all your objects as some carnival glass is worth a lot of money also. Amber paperweight could have value if old. Sometimes TS's don't have any idea what things are worth. 1st look to see if name on any. Fenton, or a figure or numbers etc, even with nothing,as lot marked with paper label you need to check to see if worth lot more than you paid.Some carnival glass goes $20 to over $2000. Paperweight if signed is easy to trace,if not signed could still be worth $200. Is it glass or plastic, if plastic OK to use it, if glass check before using!! If it is marked on bottom & scratched it can be restored. If you know an antique dealer, might ask them what they are worth, some will tell you, tell them you don't want to sell just interested in their worth. Go to library & ask to look at antique books, may have 1 on carnival glass, I have 1 so they are out there. otherwise check bookstore & look at couple of antiques books by Ralph Kovel or Schroder's they are good general books (don't get Judith Miller books- they are good but how much English stuff do you have, I've never found anything in them that I have) Sorry this is long but antiquer's are like junkers, we want to preserve things!! One of the Camassia species. Those pale blue flowers are typical of C. scilloides, but there are too many infertile bracts under the inflorescence.

WOW, Dave, this is quite AWESOME! I love that it is the side of the house by your pool! What a view while you're enjoying the water! The glass shapes, colors & textures you've chosen work beautifully! and the painting works for now...but copper stems will be even more beautiful! Any chance on adding some "slim copper leaves" at the same time??? Whatever you do (or don't do), it looks GREAT right now! TFS! Jeanne S.

Wow! Took flower plates to another level! Great idea to have several flowers on a branch??or stem! Seems like you will need couple of different "leaves" 1 just plain & 2nd a little lacy looking. you are very artistic with the green paint spraying it on without making a mess, did you use a stencil you made?(Even that wouldn't help me, my hand would slip)LOL. Great spot to have it where there isn't lot of greenery by the pool. Makes lounging in the pool much more enjoyable with such a nice wall to gaze at, imagine the sun dances off of some of the plates & fun to watch the changes as the sun moves. Jan

Incredible! I love how each stem/clump is a different type of flower! The clear glass ones in a circle is like a giant queen anns lace. Who know glass flowers came in species! I like the painted stems very much.

That looks great, I always say "More is better". It really fills the wall nicely and you have some great specimans.

Great idea! They turned out beautiful. I will have to share this with a friend who keeps wondering how to cover an unsightly neighbor's 6' wooden fence. I think this would be a great idea for her use.

Well, Dave...you've been holding out on us!! We never knew you were a plate flower guru!! Those are all amazing and they look awesome on the side of the house! Love your pool area too...the plate flowers look right at home there!

VERY beautiful and extremely creative! I, too, love how each stem has it's own flower species! I vote for keeping the painted stems...simple and to the point! You definitely did a great job collecting plates and glassware! I especially like that some are square, too!

You never answered or told us how you drilled the holes in the plate flowers & how you mounted them to your house???? Please share!

That is beautiful!
You have taken plate flowers to a whole new level.
The spray paint stems are nice, but dcarch's style of stems with leaves made from copper pipe would take this to a whole new level.
The display is 'just right'.
Not overly done, or too much.
Nor is it too skimpy.
Just can't find the right words to do it justice!
