Garden Pagoda

I kept throwing the base sections of various table lamps in my "salvage" pile after using the glass for other projects. Yesterday I had this brainstorm while cleaning up my work area. This garden pagoda is made from 6 table lamp bases, 5 glass jars, 6 old CD's, 1 section of a different lamp (for the top), and 1 finnel. What make this garden junk so neat is the way colors from the reflective sunlight bouncing off the CD's. I used a sand blaster to cut holes in the bottoms of the jars.

Shoot ---Robert, why can't I ever find really neat things like this (lamps - 15 for $20)? Must be the concrete jungle I'm living in. IMPRESSIVE---- The stand looks like it came with the planter! And the fact that you have the perfect large, flat-one-side rock to display it on, makes this vignette absolutely perfect! The only experience I have with water plants is my Fiber Optics plant. Grass-like but short. Likes to keep it's feet damp so I'm able to keep it in the birdbath. A really brilliant green and the very tips are where a teensy, tiny flower sprouts. The flower is a cream color, probably no bigger than the head of an unsharpened pencil lead. Gives the impression of optic lights at the end of the long, green really thin blades. I've had it in both sun and shade and it does equally well.

Robert, I'm sooooo impressed!!! I just spent some time looking at your photo album .... you are so talented! My goodness, just when I think I've seen it all .... the balancing man is totally new to me! And the video of the fountain is great ... the pogodas are all so beautiful. Also the hypertufa. I love the pagoda AND the pots! I made about 50 stepping stones this year with a concrete mix, but haven't tried cement/perlite pots yet. What did you use for forms? I intend to have a lot of pots in our new landscaping, but I'm really ignorant on this subject.

Heres one I made copying from Kelvins orginal design. The inside light is composed of a 4x4 post which incorporates the insides from a cheap plastic garden "pagoda" light It provides a goodly amount of light for a fairly dark corner of my garden Image link:

That is WONDERFUL, Robert. What a great idea. I love how you designed this. By the way, not sure if you ever check over on Conversation side, but an APB was put out on you as we've really missed seeing your creations and hoped you were ok.

Who would have thunk it? The "feet" of the lamp bases almost look like the dragon heads you see in Asian pagodas. The colors on the CDs do look cool. Although I'm sure the picture isn't as pretty as it is in person.

Have you come up with a use for the satellite dish yet?

P.S. Good to see you back with your ingenious ideas!

well i'll be darned! i was making a totem last night and needed something to stablize the glass in between. cd's....why didn't i think of that!

That is a good mixture of products. Really like that.
caroleena: just a thought, the cd may lose its coating outside in the weather between water and sun. The reflectors that I make with them barely make 2 summers and the GE II may make it hard to replace. Maybe a lip to a metal can would work as well.

YOu are amazing. The CDs are a fantastic idea. I am always looking for small mirrors, and the CDs would be perfect. Of course the pagoda itself is fantastic as usual. Keep creating and posting.
