Ugly nectarines- what did i do wrong?

These are 3 stark brothers royal giant nectarines (only ~ 1.75" Diameter) picked 7-17-11 which would have probably reached full size and flavor in 1-2 weeks. I sprayed dormant oil in the winter, immunox in spring before bud break, triacide every 3 weeks after bloom, one of the sprays i tried Bonide sulfur spray (all always had a few days to dry before rain)... the birds (woodpeckers) are starting to attack the nectarines a couple weeks before they are ripe. I have not seen any worms or bugs inside the nectarines i cut open, but the skin on the outside looks rough! All season there have not been very many bugs around the dwarf tree. Why are they so ugly and what better spray chemicals/regiment do you recommend?
