Lily Garden Wind Turbine Update 5.10

I posted this pic last month of my new Lily garden with the wind turbine(and the triple floor birdhouse DH & I mounted in March):

The lilies are growing some (it's pretty cold weather here right now & lots of rain)...but here's an update...added this "dragonfly" windchime (a vacation purchase for $9) ...he didn't show up very well so I spray-painted his body a lighter color...I like using cast iron stuff as it rusts & lasts forever:

And here's a birdcage I usually have on my patio bakers rack ...added some peat moss & a clearance $2 bird:

I'm still watching for the "perfect" GJ pot that I can add to bottom of the posts. Any ideas? The lilies should get much taller next mo! Jeanne S.

Your windchime and birdcage filled your post out nicely. I like cast iron stuff too, but don't see much around here that is affordable. It's been rainy and cool here also. DH planted peppers outside and in the greenhouse and the ones in the greenhouse are more than twice the size of the outside ones. I guess we need some warmer nights. Thanks for the update pics.

Love your windchime and birdcage Jeanne! Look great with the turbine. How about buckets or those cast iron cooking pots...you know the kind that look like witch's cauldrons for your planters? I know you'll find just the right thing though...can't wait to see!

I was also confused about the title of this post and decided finally to go check it out. I as well have been wanting to go buy one of these at Home Depot and make a Windspinner out of it. I saw on one website where someone used it as a base for their whirligig or to make their whirligig run. I wish I would have bookmarked it. Do you neighbors get bothered by the flash of light from the mirror pieces when it spins? Last 2 summers Rite Aid had Garden dangles that had mirror pieces. I have several and they flash little lights everywhere when the sun hits them just right. I am glad that my neighbor had a perpetual Oriental screen in front of her front window or it may drive her mad...lol Gmathyme...yes the Dwarfs did mine...and I researched it and look they were diamond miners... Chohio, Thank you. I think the plants will survive since they can't keep running over them again and again. Thyme, I believe the veggie garden is around 12' or 14'x35'. It's one of the smallest gardens I have had over the years but it's just my youngest daughter and I now so there is plenty of room to grow what we can eat. I'll be canning this year, haven't done that in a couple of years now. It really helps during winter so that we just have to buy staples and meat. I have some cattle so I may have one calf butchered this fall and that will really help out. Wish I could raise chickens in town! As for the roofers, there was a problem with the quality of their work and had to tell them to rip some of the shingles back off and correct their poor work. I imagine they are pretty mad at me now. I came home yesterday to them having cut off a big branch of one of the maple trees and they dumped the whole thing on top of the dwarf lilac and the peony. I had to clean that mess up myself. So far today they haven't shown up. One whole side of my roof is open and we are to have big storms today and rain for the next week. Oh boy!!! Linda, yes mulch is next, right after I finish planting the veggies. Lisa, it's been a challenge to stay out of the greenhouse across the street from me, let me tell you! All day long when I'm outside doing my gardening thing, I'm watching car after car pull up over there, go in and then come carrying out plants, trees and shrubs. I am determined though to move all of my plants here before I buy another thing. I'm almost out of room and half my plants are still back at the ranch. I think I may have to have some more space tilled out in the lawn or something. Do you suppose I can let my melons vine through a Daylily bed? LOL! Sorry to hear you are going through roofer woes as well. It is so frustrating! MeMo

Plantmaven- Your garden pictures are so beautiful...but that little bird is just charming :) Gardenweed- Your peonies are lovely. We have some that came with the place that look very similar...and they have a nice fragrance. Thyme- Your garden is so pretty! I'm looking forward to seeing all your new veggies, next summer. Freezengirl- I do have Walker's Low catmint. It's in the kitchen garden. For some reason, the barn kitties leave it alone out there, but when I try to plant it closer to the house...disaster! LOL That's one reason I have so much lavender. Wren-garden, I have my blueberries mixed in with everything else, but I don't put acid on my soil, either. If you decide you need to add acid, then they'll look great with azaleas, rhodedendrons and hydrangeas (if you like the blue ones). I don't grow any of these (the first two are poisonous to horses) but I'm pretty sure they all like acid soil. Think about what else would grow under/with pine trees. As for deer...they can be a challenge, but ours are so darn cute, we try to make the garden work with them, rather than trying to get rid of them. I've read all deer are different, depending on where you live, how many they are (how hungry they are) and if there are so many...they just devastate everything. That being said, we've had good luck with butterfly bushes, lavender, catmint, bee balm, daisies, coneflowers, cosmos, marigolds, zinnias, peonies, daffodils, lilacs, plum trees, clematis, columbine, pansies, and mints. Hi I just wanted to express my thanks for YaYa and my pal for checking in on me. I truly appreciate it more than words can say. My pal has asked me to guess who she is....I emailed the person whom I thought it could be....I am not sure I am right as my pal doesn't talk about children in her letters but does in the posts. Hummmm Well soon I will know! I emailed her as I didn't want to post here as I don't want to be the cause of someone finding out who their pal is if they don't want to know!! My pal included scilla "White City" is my package this month!! Can't wait to see them bloom!! I don't have anything like them. Plus the fact that they are white makes me happy to add them to my angel garden in memory of my special nephew. Thanks my special pal for being so kind to me and taking the time not to only send a surprise package my way but always finding the time to write. My pal trains puppies to become therapy dogs which I think is so wonderful!! What a special person. I thank you for doing that as there is such a need for that. I admire that you are able to let the pup go after being trained. Bless your heart as I know that can't be easy! Hugs! Take care and enjoy your weekend!! Looks like some more warm weather! The turbine looks like a hat on a lady and she has the bird feeder hanging out of one hand and the dragonfly in the other. At least from the pic angle. I guess she may have an extra set of "arms"! Seems like she/it does need something to fill her out at the bottom. I like the bird cage and bird very much!

It's all turning out so wonderful! Your creativity never ends! LOVE the bird in the cage...what is he made of? Sitting there nestled in, he has a look in his eye as if to tell wild birds he's got the better end of the deal...he gets a nice warm bed and food arrives like manna from heaven while THEY have to forage for food and build their own nests. Can you tell I'm REALLY into personification??? LOL!

Wonderful additions to the lily garden! I love your bird in the cage idea. I might have to steal that one. I like the dragonfly chime too. I love cast iron stuff too. I always get excited when I see pieces at flea markets. Once I get a yard, I'll be buying more of it!

Your dragonfly is great, so much personality, most are not nearly as well designed. Bird in cage is cute, might get a real bird moving in if it is kind of shady! A vine that doesn't grow very tall would be neat but don't know what kind that would be. Jan

it's all a great combination and wish I had even one suggestion for the bottom around the post, like you indicated but only a small tractor tire is my thought..or the seat of a tractor, if you can ever find one.

jeanie...bravo...very nice and rustic looking. It does look like a lady kinda...and her bonnet. I like the cauldron idea or a galvanized bucket or tub. I like the tractor tire idea as well. At first I thought of just a garden pot but the cauldron is way more cooler! Geez I have not gone to the junky swap meet in a long time...perfect place to pick up items to make the glass plate flowers.
