My experience with sour cherries this year

I had ripe Surefire and Danube cherries this year for the first time. The Surefire is really sour. The Danube is not so mouth puckeringly sour but by no stretch is it sweet (even though the catalog claims it becomes sweet). Maybe the Danube could have ripened a little more.

I don't know sour cherries all that well. The only other fresh sour cherry I have tasted is Montmorency. There are subtle differences for sure but cooked in to preserves Surefire and Danube are quite enjoyable. Extrapolating I think these two would make great pies too.

I have a baby Northstar and Montmorency. Can't wait.

The good part: No aphids, no birds, no squirrels bothered these cherries. Although I didn't get to eat sweet fruit from the tree the agricultural ease more than makes up for it.

I am loving sour cherries!
