Which side is up for Garlic/Shallot/Multiplier Onions

I will be planting garlic, shallots and multiplier onions for the first time tomorrow.

Garlic: I have read on the net many methods explaining planting garlic and they all say the pointed end is to be planted upwards. So that is really the stems end, correct?

In my picture the top is to be planted upwards?

Shallots and multipliers onions: Neither of mine have a pointed end, so which side is to be planted upwards? The stem side or the flater side?

In my picture of the shallot top side should be planted upwards?

Multiplier Onion, is my picture the left side should be planted upwards?

thanks for helping me clarify this in my head.

Dean

Note: I will be splitting apart the garlic and shallots just before planting.
