WIP pics

Hi gang, I'm new here but promised I'd post my WIP pics, so here are a few of the ones I've started...

Birdhouse...DH's grandfather made this and years ago I painted it with a snow scene but thought I'd use left over slate tiles from my kitchen backsplash and some store bought stones and pebbles to mosaic it. In the first pic you can see the old snow scene. None of the blue will show, it will all be grouted eventually...

Here's the gourd I painted and turned into a birdhouse. Still need to seal it yet and it's currently hanging from my island light in my kitchen while the dots were drying...

And this is the bean teepee I constructed yesterday. I'll plant the beans tommorrow. I'll post more pics when (hopefully) it's covered with the vines.

I also have plans to make concrete mushrooms, tipsy pots with galvanized buckets (gotta go get another bucket and some flowers) and a silverware windchime!

Girl you have been very busy! LOVE the birdhouse. The mosaic is looking good! I like the gourd as well. Are you in Lake Norman NC???

Well if you don't beat all. Girlie, this is truly magnificent. GEESH - you're talented. No way could I do that, and my DD wants me to make a mosaic of a horse of which she took a picture when she was a Road Nurse here. I don't know where to start. I sooooooo love what you've done already, and w/follow w/interest. You made ME LOL at your description of the beads. GO Girl. When I had that surgery done, it wasn't so bad that I couldn't do hand work. You'll do fine.

Well thanks everyone! I just hope the weather holds out. Last night, again, was in the 30's. Winter's come early here. Cacbeary, that video is GREAT!! Thanks for sending me that. But I really don't think I need to shove rebar in the base. It's a very solid piece and has been sitting outside for the past 5 years without a bit of damage. I will definitely use rebar to attach the backs and arms. Yes, Bianchi, the bricks are cemented down. I wouldn't do it any other way. I'm not very good at leveling land. ;-) Now if it will just warm up a bit outside - still in the 40's and that's kinda cold. And I promise to take many, many pics. I'm a pic fiend so I won't miss taking a pic of any of the steps.

Really nice piece of work, Lisa. To me, thirteen year olds are just hormones on feet, but your kid is kind of right-- cartoons use simple shapes, as do mosaics. So he's not really wrong... but if he said it with the usual thirteen year old 'tude, give him a "pfffft!" from me. ;-) Love those colors! Nancy

I LOVE your table. When I was little my family doctor had a coffee table in his waiting room that was like yours with the sand and the beach things. I always loved that table. He redid his office and the table was gone. I asked him what happened to the table because I wanted it and he put it in his beach house. I've always kept that table in my head thinking I would recreate it one day. You could always run a bead of caulk down the glass to cover any issues or maybe use tiny beads.

If you've been following here, you'll know I LOVE birdhouses! Did you grow your own gourd? That paint job is delightful! Thanks for sharing your wonderful work!

Happy to see your pics...when I read your first post, I thought, WOW, this gal is busy! Love the mosaic on the birdhouses! Keep it up and thanks for sharing the pics! Will look forward to more.... Jeanne S.

R, I'm in Rutherford county. 20min west of Shelby. Work in Gastonia, hour from Charlotte to the east and an hour to Ashville north west. Love it here.

Thanks everyone. Yes, I grew the gourds myself. I have a few others but haven't done a lot with them. I have one other gourd birdhouse but I drilled the hole too big and so far nobody has taken residence in it. I have one I turned into a feeder as well and a few still sitting on a shelf in my garage that I haven't done anything with. Last year was the first time I'd ever grown gourds and I didn't plant a whole lot of them. I'm hooked though and have put several seeds out already and have plans to put out more. A lot of the seeds I put out are seeds from the gourds I've already worked with. I hope they grow!

I also have another of the wood birdhouses DH's grandfather made. This one is the original red and white he painted it and is hanging from my cedar arbor. There's a family of finches living in it right now! I just love to watch the birds (and so do my two kitties!).

Bright, we should get together and go junking some time! I'm on the NW side of Lake Norman, about 45 minutes from Charlotte.

Really great.when I was in Cedar key there was a boutique with kitties made from gourds I think they added paper mache for ears and such.Then painted and charged $60 and up!!!
