What type of glue would work best for attaching items made of various materials (wood, glass, rocks, etc.) to plastic---for use outdoors? Thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge and experiences!

I use gorilla glue for small projects(be careful, wear gloves..it will turn your fingers black); I use liquid nails and a caulking gun for bigger projects. Hope this helps.

I'm with Frankie in wondering whether you've chosen a really good design for the area under a big old tree. It isn't easy to landscape nicely under big trees. I'm REALLY glad you learned in time where tree roots actually are and to not cover them with plastic. But it's possible you designed your plan when you had your initial impression, that the roots are near the trunk. So maybe a rethink of your design is in order. Any chance you can use the materials you have bought elsewhere in the yard? Or return the plastic? Trees often create their own preferred ground environment: a mulch of their own leaves. If that isn't working for you, other options would be to add more organic mulch, be it bark or chopped leaves or something else, or growing actual lawn to the trunk, which can work if the grass can get enough light and water (not too often the case). A third might be a perennial garden with lots of spreading plants to cover the ground, such as hostas or ferns. But they will need to be watered to overcome the effect of tree root competition. Any of these options can cope with the shower of leaves from above. Rocks, not so much. For managing the weeds, is there any reason not to get in there and physically remove the bermuda before you put a mulch down? I'm not experienced with bermuda, nor with whether apricots are very shallow-rooted (and thus vulnerable to digging), but a couple of repeated but shallow attacks on the grass might work. You could always use something like glyphosate if it grows back through the mulch. But I always prefer a hands-on approach to chemicals, if you can muster it. KarinL

E-6000 , you can get it in the craft dept. at walmart. it works on everything. I put a dresser back together with it, my son used it on his convertible top, & my sister used it to put gems on dresses. ") good stuff !!!

I don't buy compost. But there have been a number of reports in these forums from folks who have who reported finding debris similar to what you describe. One even reported an old shoe, along with bits of glass, plastic and wire (see link below). My SWAG is that where you get compost like that, it probably came from municipal waste disposal where the contributors are rather indiscriminate about what they toss into their collection bin. If it were me I'd go back with whatever I still had and raise .. well .. I'd make a big fuss. You got something far less than what you paid for. In my world that's called a rip-off. If they balk, tell them the internet is a great way to let the world know what they (by name) are selling, and that they will soon be famous for the crap they sell. I looked at the GE website and saw two types of GE Silicone II listed. One is called "Household Glue," while the other one mentions exterior applications: "GE Silicone II Metal Glue and Seal is a 100% silicone sealant that offers excellent adhesion and maximum performance in exterior applications." Which is the one that you use?

GE Silicone II - the sealant for indoor/outdoor use. I've used it to adhere glass to plastic, rocks to wood and plastic and glass, glass to glass, ceramic and porcelain to wood and plastic and metal, etc. You name it, I've used it!

I used it on a piece which I mosaiced and placed outside and forgot to bring in for the winter. The porcelain pieces are still stuck to the wood, but the wood warped and the grout has broken in some places. Tried to pry some of the pieces off yesterday, but they are on there for good!

Silicone is great stuff for many applications but for a fail proof bond you can go to polyurathane.

The PL brand is available at Home Depot. I would suggest the Outdoor Project or even better the Premium Construction Adhesive.

I use the GE Silicone II for windows and doors, I also get the clear color. But it has to be for windows and doors!!

Does anybody use E6000 for outside projects? I use it a lot, but can't remember if I used it for outside.

I use GE Marine silicone and in the past I've used "Fix All" Here is a plastic globe I used stained glass and GE Marine Silicon on, then grouted with outdoor grout and sealed said grout with outdoor grout sealer...It looks cool lit up!!

I need a glue to bind plastic to wood.The area of wood is about three to four millimeters.De glue must be applied with a small brush.Dryingor open time must be between 2 minutes and 5 minutes or more if their is a drying solvent to speed op the drying..I make kite
