My experience: My eggplants did not produce a single fruit allllll summer! THey had tons of blossoms but had blossom drop. As soon as it started to cool in late august that thing started setting fruit like crazy and did all the way up until I rippedd it out when it got frost damage at about 30 degrees F. It still had 4 baby fruit on it at the time. So I'd say as far as the eggplant, mine performed best in that temperature range without any protection and even with shortening days.

Yes. In Kuwait, I grew the same veggies in much cooler temperatures (40s at night to 60s during the day) and they produced all winter. They accelerated production during March and April when the temperatures were optimal. In May, they rapidly died off due to the dry heat - even the eggplants - but okra was one of the few plants that flourished all summer if given plenty of water. I hope you like okra, because that is really easy to grow there.

I agree with Mindy, my eggplants went to sleep in the hotter weather, but as soon as it cooled off, I had more blossoms and fruit. As long as it is warm in the day with plenty of sun, you will be ok.

I've overwintered two eggplants for the past three winters. I've continued to get eggplants throughout the winter, usually just not getting anything for the months of Dec-Jan.
Mine nearly died from a hard freeze last winter, lost all their foliage. I cut them back and they came back, blossomed and fruited like crazy, in Feb!

I am glad the weather here will be ideal for the eggplants... I was just worried because I read somewhere that night temperatures have to be above 65F for the plants.

I only protect mine if it's going to be a hard freeze. Otherwise, even down in the low thirties, they seem to do fine. Mine don't get much sun, though and next time I plant I'll put them in a sunnier spot. Unfortunately, a sunnier spot will mean I lose the heat and frost protection of the house.
