Mike,

Can't find other post we had. So started new one. Here's pictures of my Xanadu, Green and Golden. The Golden one doesn't have any off sets so I hope I will get one for you this spring. The Green one has many. They are small growing and very dence. The yellow one needs shade to keep from burning the new leaves. They come out almost white than yellow then turning green after several months.

Stush, my goodness, I am in love with them. Stunning and I can imagine how they can lighten a darker corner of a house! I particularly love the sounds of white turning yellow to green one or mostly yellow. I have never seen them before.

Is there anything I can do for you after all you do for me? If so, e-mail me. I would love to share something with you that you don't have, even if it has to wait until I makes cuttings in spring. I will be making cuttings of plants I received from foreign countries with certificate in the Jade department0:-

If you ever see a plant I and I can take a cutting or rooting for you, I will.

Hi Guys,

I love your Zanadu's, Stush. It's good to know they are staying smallish. My biggest problem with tropicals like philos and monsteras is they usually grow way to large to keep in the house.

Do you ever find these locally? I have looked, but haven't had any luck. Maybe it's just as well, it's a challenge to find a good spot for all I have now.

thanks all. So the second one is Xanadu.(need to research more for this, never heard of it) And yes, there are 3 cuttings in the pot, some with one or two roots, some without roots at all. We will see if all three will rooted for me. And any reason it is difficult indoors? dry air or something else? Thanks again -greendale

I dug out some interesting info from specialists on tropicsphere forum (which is no more). here's quote P. xanadu is NOT a "compact sport" of "Selloum" ..but a "good" species, quite different to P. bipinnatifidium A.K.A. Philo. ''selloum''. Our 2002 paper..goes into detail on how/where it was brought into cultivation. The treatment of this plant during the tissue culture process causes it to diverge from what it should really look like-- again, read the 2008 paper. P. "Hope" and P. "Showboat" are identical to P. xanadu, but have had less exposure to chemicals or NO/little chemicals during their tissue culture production, and they certainly are NOT ''smaller cultivars'' of P. bipinnatifidium. P. "Hope" actually closely resembles what I believe the wild-collected plant of P. xanadu looks like. if you want to read it yourself it's here (goto page 2): http://www.tropicsphere.com/main/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8826 apparently they treat culture with clumping and dwarfing chemicals - that's why nursery xanadu's are so 'clumpy'. grown naturally they form single trunks and do not clump (? or clump less? not sure here). so does it mean that stush's plant won't clump? there's also some obscure ref to superthrive: apparently when you chop off the top (with aerial roots) and leave the trunk - often it will die off. but not if you give it some fish emulsion and 'a proper dosage'(whatever that means?) of superthrive. then it will sprout new crown. very interesting. Yes, I don't have any facilities for fussy plants. They all go outside, they all come in. Plants at ease in the conditions I have are what I prefer, and Philo genus offers ample opportunity to fill a house with various pretty leaves. I wouldn't enjoy a plant that couldn't grow well here. Apparently I'm one of the unlucky few sensitive (or have developed sensitivity) to the alkaloids in some Philodendrons. Heart-leaf vine gives me a rash if I get the sap on me. I haven't experimented with other Philos, but now operating under the assumption that all will give me a rash if I get their sap on me. So that would be one thing to not like, but if I eliminated all of the plants I have that I'm allergic to, that would be a lot of them, definitely not just Philos. Knowing about it, I can just avoid exposure to sap when trimming/propagating. Just touching the unbroken leaves or stems is harmless, but washing right away after contacting the sap doesn't seem to avoid getting a rash. I don't think this should prevent anyone from being able to enjoy these plants if they find them appealing, as long as caution is taken for sensitive individuals to avoid touching the sap.

ok. I would cut the stem to about 2 inches above ground. It will probably come back. They are very hard to kill. They cut the one at church all the way back and after several months it came back. Take at least 4 inch sections and plant them in a one gallon pot (if they aren't too wide). I never had one die that way. I miss having them. I used to live in Vero Beach.

Stush. Beautiful Xanadus. Think the first is the prettiests but all are nice.

Barb, I've seen Xanadu sold on Ebay..Mainly green, but one seller had Gold. Don't know if they're still available though.

Xanadus don't grow as large as Philos/Monsteras. In fact, they're pretty compact, so you wouldn't have to worry about it growing wild or too big. Toni

I've seen Xanadus at the big box stores, too; they aren't that uncommon any more. Never seen that gold one, though.

Make sure it's Xanadus and not 'Hope' which is still smaller but look alikes or the big Monsteras in a small form.
Bmock, I got your address, I will send you a green one this spring if you want. And any one else. I think I can see at least 6 plants to make out of the big one.
For some reason, the Gold doesn't want to pup. I could cut the top off and force the bottom to sprout back out or maybe it will die.
Any way, i got these from Glasshouse Works on the internet.

Thanks Mike, but no need to trade something back. I am blessed to have and enjoy to give. Some friends I have make sent me lots of plants that I know I can't repay. So I am glad to give to others what I have they want.
