Abutilon in for the winter, looking spindly, what to do?

Hi

I bought an Abutilon for a summer container this year, and just brought it in for the winter. I am surprised that it didn't grow much while outside all summer, and it didn't bloom much. Now I have it in the house, repotted, and it is pretty spindly. The branches are going in every direction and the lower 1/2 of each branch is pretty bare.

It basically looks about the same size as when I bought it in June, only with the lower branches having fewer leaves. It was in part shade and watering was consistent.

Can I get a bushier plant with new growth if I cut it back now having just brought it inside for the winter? Or should I let it alone for the winter and cut it back in the spring?

Thanks :-)
