Garden art at flea market

My sis and I went to Nashville flea market Sunday. I didn't get pix, shame on me. There was a vendor there that had made the "teapot lamps" a member had a post a while back. She was selling them for $100 plus. Very pretty pieces. The one vendor that took my attention the most, was art forms made from found objects. Pitch forks, bolts, funnels etc. He had a man, rooster, lady bug butterfly, too many to remember. Darn I wish I had taken my camera. Anyway I fell in love with his creations. Had a ball looking at all that he made. But my pocket book didn't have enough in it to buy anything from him either. But I enjoyed looking. Just thot I'd share with you all about the garden junk coming out buzz.

Oh -- I could spend HOURS gawking at stuff like that ! I've seen so many awesome "junk artists " like that around here at craft fairs ... it's such a shame - they have their stuff priced too high for many of us to afford . I suppose that's a good thing ... or - I'll give you 3 guesses what my yard would look like ......... LOL

HI Max and everyone else- I agree, I miss the old days (other posting) but I'm still selling too- Laura- curious- why were you chastised for stating where you sell? Self promoting? 'sigh'- I sell at two local craft malls now, one flea market, and my front yard. I can't seem to wrap my mind around the shipping of a flower- but I am trying some smaller sized plates (drying right now!) so I may try that- I don't make a lot of money on them, either. I'd rather find the joy of making them, making some money to go shopping for more glass! I drill the glass, use copper pipe and GE II. There are more glass plate flowers surfacing in this area, so I'm trying to create my own look- Has anyone seem Garden Whimsies by Mary's facebook? she has over 200,000 fans and sells regularly on _______ fill in the blank!

Many garden statuary are imported so it's best to find out the names of local manufaturers and to ask if they hold factory sales. You just might find one near your area. My garden find for the day, is surprisingly from a card shop.. Carlton Cards is holding sales and I got my coloured glass windchimes for around $13. I plan to take it apart and not to utilize it as windchimes. (one windchime is enough) I like the look of the sun shining through glass but it's been quite expensive to find stained glass work for outdoor purposes. This way, I can hang the glass on branches around the yard and feel great about the splashes of colours. Right now I'm regretting not purchasing those really neat statues of plump pigeons to set in one or two corners of the garden. An element of surprise is always a necessary thing for me when designing.

This is a really fun thread. I like to see what everyone has in their garden and how thoughtful about art and creative you all are. I often think I'm going to "make" some garden art but then never get around to it. I don't decorate the garden with a whole lot of art. I have a few decorative stakes and then a few glazed birdbaths and some copper sprinklers that I use more for decoration than watering. My mom has a very cute piece of garden art. The story behind it is that we were at Hever Castle in England and they were selling all kinds of cement statues. We fell in love with so many of them. My mom couldn't part with this guy. Hever Castle was down a hill so we had to hike back up the hill, carry him on the rest of our tour and then carry him home on the plane. He weighed between 30-35 pounds so it was like carrying a little person around. He was well worth it though!

Kate - LOVE your totem ! You really have an artistic eye for form and color . If you find anything that glues glass together better than GE Silicon II - please post it here . I have a glass candlestick holder that the cats broke . Nothing seems to hold the one piece back together for long . Hmmm .... Not to be a downer --- Goodwill has senior citizen discount days . Not sure if the age is 55 or more . Some stores like Bealls Outlet have their discount age at 50 for 15% off - while other store make the age 55 . Worth checking out for future discounts . When purchasing glassware , some Thrift Stores will offer huge discounts if you buy in bulk. If you see a small store like Habitat or a Church run shop has too much glass or dishware - make them an offer . An example is - " I'll take all the dishes and glassware off your hands for $50 . " This way they make money and have room for more merchandise while you have more than enough product for future projects . You can always donate what you don't want or need to shelters or Freecycle it . Or get someone else to go in on this with you and split the goodies . Keep up the good work !

It sounds like you had an awesome time. I used to think the cameras on cell phones were silly but they sure come in handy when you find something awesome you'd like to share with others! And mine takes some really nice pictures too. Now if they could only put a telephoto lens on those things ...

You know what's so funny about this whole thing, is I had my phone (with camera with me), but had so much fun looking at all the things he had made, I forgot the fool camera on the phone. DUH I promise if I go next month I will take pix if these vendors are there.

Exactly where is the Nashville Flea Market? Is it every sunday? I am about 2 hours from Nashville so it would be a nice sunday drive.
