Apple Tree Pollination by Prairie Fire Crab Apple?

I have planted two young apple trees this spring. I do not know what variety they are or when they bloom, except that they produce light red apples that are very tasty. I recently read on the internet that you must have two different varieties of apples trees that bloom at the same time, or a crabapple tree, to pollinate the apple tree and get fruit. I have started some prairie fire crab apple trees (free from a tree at work) and wonder if this will pollinate whatever variety of apple tree I have planted?
