Put it on a post in the garden. Use it for garden tools. Paint vines on it. Or. Put a hole in the door and use it for a birdhouse. Or put it by the front door with a pad and pencil so someone could leave you a note. Put a magnet or two on outside and they can attach it so you know you had company.

My plans are to have a snail-mail section, where
there is a mailbox and snails of all kinds....Except real ones!

Like twomonths, I used my old mail box for garden hand tools. When the latch broke I used some magnets from an old kitchen cabinet to hold it shut and I tucked it away between the house and a Lilac bush - never thought of painting it. My neighbor has two "air mail" bird houses they are cute.

I hope to mosaic a mailbox to use as a garden tool holder! My mailbox got hit by the snow plow this winter! It's pretty dented so I don't think I will used this one to mosiac.
I also really like the ida of having one on the porch for notes!

I'm glad I saw this! My old mailbox was just "attacked", along with about 40 others around me, and I love the idea of garden tool storage. Now onto removing the house that surrounded the actual mailbox, as it's all demolished. I think I'll mount mine to the side of my shed!

My hubby cut a hole in the back of mine big enough for a pot so I could plant in it. The he cut a piece of board to fit inside between the front and the pot so I could store tools and gloves. The kids wouldn't let me paint it because it happened to have the same number as their grandparent's(in a different town).

I also use an old one to hold garden tools. It beats running to the shed or garage every time I need a tool. Junkergal, I looked at your pictures, and they are awesome! I love your use of two different colors of mulch! That really sets off the plants. And I love the fence made of branches. And the old clothesline post. I love it all! You need to share more of your lovely garden and junk!

I refuse to buy any more new mailboxes if I can bang out the dents in this one! So far we've had to pick it up at least a dozen times, and I repaint it each time. It's been run over,and hit with beer bottles and baseball bats and drunk drivers. Last year I repainted it lavender with Kilz spray paint,and used paint pens to make bees on it,and a sponge to make the wings,and bright red numbers on it :) Funny thing, I just noticed in the last couple weeks someone stole my bright little flag I'd moved out there to the mailbox, I have no idea how long it's been gone!! Well, I only paid $5 for it at Dollar General,but still......my husband says I just keep making it a better target every time I paint it! I've seen neighbors leave their old boxes on the ground near the new mailbox,and leave the lid open and plant flowers in them. One of our neighbors has had some "air mail" boxes on poles since I was a little girl.

I planted mine in the garden ... and turned it into a feeder.

I have been using an old mailbox that had a broken lid to it for several years as a planter.It can also be used for storing gardening tools.I also had an old grill with tiny holes in the bottom that was not fire proof but made a great planter.

I have one standing up on end in the half bath. I used it to hold toilet paper for a few years but in the most recent years, it's the trash can! It's a small bathroom with very little space to put a garbage can so this tall, skinny mailbox works quite well!
