I'm a newbie, just saying hi.

I found this forum by accident while googling shabby chic mosaics and it's wonderful!! I've been doing mosaics for a while with shabby chic mosaics my new favourite but I really want to get into garden mosaics. I want to do birdbaths, totems, and a seat like the bench (throne) I saw on this forum I think by Cait? in Victoria Australia, it's fantastic!

I hope to get lots of inspiration from you guys and also to be able to share whatever knowledge and ideas I have.

I agree with the previous replies. Try the D. adelaes for now and a Venus Flytrap later when you have the capacity to add florescent lights for indoor growing in a south window, or outside growing ideally. Mine grows well indoors with 12000 lumens of florescent light and a south window. The D. adelaes do appreciate lots of light, but do burn in direct sunlight. A south window and 6000 lumens of florescent light is about the most I would give them as mine develops very vivid purplish hues and an extraordinary amount of dew in such light. Much more and they would probably burn. The good thing about D. adelae is that once you get their conditions right they will clone themselves into instant gifts for family and friends. They are almost impossible to kill as long as they get mineral free water, some good light, and plenty of space in a fertilizer free mix of sphagnum peat and perlite.

Welcome Denise, You sound like me & a thousand other gardeners. Just can't pass up a cutting or seed head. I never know what I'll do with these when I get them rooted or germinated. My yard is full but still I propogate. Can't help my self. You will enjoy this forum.

I too think the GF is a "classic"! GF: paninis, chicken breast, turkey burgers, teriyaki skewers, french toast, grilled zucchini, you can even cook an egg on the GF by tilting it up...endless possibilities Blender: smoothies with every kind of fruit and yogurt are a yummy healthy breakfast (add spinach to a blueberry smoothie, they will never know) Crockpot: do you know you can slow cook a meatloaf in a crockpot? Stews, soups, casseroles, baked potatoes Rice cooker: add lentils to the rice and cook, add edamame too. BBQ: pizza and everything you would normally BBQ! Fondue pot: bring back the fondue--my kids love this cheesey goop! Toaster: turned on it's side and lined with aluminum can heat a slice of pizza Breakfast for dinner using an electric skillet: pancakes, sausages.

Somebody will usually tell a newby to go to the last page (in the 60's now) and start reading, because every time a new page starts an old one drops off. Even if you only scroll down and just look at the pictures! LOL

Great mosaic work! I love your fish. What sort of base did you use to mosaic on? Or did you make your own? I loved all the mosaic pieces I saw in your photo album. The dress forms were really a creative idea.

Your work is beautiful! I haven't gotten into mosaics yet, but intend to soon. I was recently given 4 boxes of stained glass pieces to play around with.

Nonacook, I'll make sure I do go through the old threads to have a look at the pics. I already checked out a couple of pages of threads, went through the ones that caught my attention. There are some great ideas and gorgeous things for the garden that's for sure, can't wait to see more.
Luna llena feliz, the fish was a garden ornament that I bought from Kmart for a few dollars. I'm hoping to have it finished this week, I was actually hoping to have it finished by today but we've had a really busy weekend so haven't had any time for mosaicing )-:
Laurastheme, that's great that you got all that glass, you must use it for a mosaic. Be warned tho, mosaicing is incredibly addictive, I'm actually a member of a group called "Mosaic Addicts" the name says it all lol!

I'm so happy another person from Australia has joined the FUN!!! Your creations are GORGEOUS!! As you know, I also love mosaicing, but like to get involved in everything else, too.
You will LOVE it here!! The best and nicest people are on this forum. Everyone is so helpful and BOY!! They know how to make a gal/guy feel GREAT!!
You should also visit the Conversations side from time to time. That's where we talk a bit more personal and you really get to know people.

Wow, thanks everyone for a really special welcome and the lovely compliments on my work.
Purple moon, I was just googling shabby mosaics and I was directed to one of the threads so I haven't seen the inspiration album so thanks for the link, I'll check it out now.

Love all your mosaic work, gosh are you talented or what?!?!

Your son is adorable! I have 2 grandsons, one is 6 months, the other is 19 months. Hubby and I really enjoy being grandparents. When they came along our whole world changed (it's very noisy now LOL)! Loved your photos! ~tenderlee
