Rusty, My Metal Dog Arrived

My metal dog from Goodwill arrived today! He is sooo cool! He's welded together with metal and springs. His head and tail moves like a hyper dog. I named my dog RUSTY! After taking these pictures, I placed Rusty on our covered, front porch to welcome guests. Here are some pictures. :o) Bear Hugs! Kirk

As you can see, they are made of a variety of metal scrap pieces like the business end of a shovel, rebar, washers and springs.

I am a big Rusty fan!

COOOOOL BIRDS, LUNA! I LOVE THEM! I think they should migrate our way to live here permanently! (LOL From one snowy, cold region to another!!!) Where did you get your birds? Did you make them? They're very artsy! Bear Hugs! Kirk

I just put my foot in it above!!! I do like dogs as long as they are someone else's. I felt so bad for DS's 1 summer as he was taking it all over & too hot for a long haired dog, so I took care of it. It cost more to feed than me. Had to get it fixed!! Brushed everyday!! And barked no end when I couldn't walk him because my head was doing me in!! Now you can see why I wrote what I did. Oh, he wasn't very big but I had to run to keep up with him &got sore arm from him pulling on leash. He was a sweety tho!!!Sorry, didn't mean to upset anyone & I read about Kirk's dog Riley & I felt so bad!! Jan

OK, this really confused me until I looked at the post dates--LOL... I was about to solute you as the queen of DL growing! The picture of the plants in the bucket show SEEING BLUE with cut leaves, and the picture of it planted in the garden shows it leafed out. I thought at first this was a new post of DL order you just received. Now if anyone can make a plant leaf out in Interesting seeing the leafstreak photos. I have some new frost damage that looks very similar except that it is not on the end on all of the leaves. Some leaves were tall enough to have bent over and the frost damage is at the highest point on each leaf so in the middle of those that bent. It is more of a light-tan sun burned look right now while it's fresh. I expect those leaves will yellow and die back and look much more like the leafstreak as they go.

Tami, again...thank you so much! Your hotpads are the only hotpads in our kitchen and I can't imagine needing any others. We've been using rags from the garage. Believe me - yours are a LOT prettier (and safer)! lol Westsider - the granite is the same that was there before the flood. What you see in the CCC picture is all the work space available in the entire kitchen (very small house). We found a remnant and I have no idea if it has a name. After the flood, Brad (our GC) said the lower cabinets had to be torn out but he thought the granite could be saved. He got it off in one piece and reinstalled it! dcarch - yes, the rolling pin is huge. But, it's easier, for me. One roll in each direction and I can take dough to 24"x8" for cinnamon rolls. It's ball bearings. I've had that rolling pin for decades. The meat slicer is a replacement for the one we lost in the flood. It's significantly larger than what we'd expected. We're considering opening a sandwich shop! :) Mabel - Every house needs, imo, whimsey so we don't take ourselves too seriously. I love my rooster also. Got him from, where else, etsy! Etsy has become my new BFF while trying to refurnish. The door is painted in chalkboard paint. Except for the flooring, the kitchen looks pretty much like it did before the flood. Reordered the same appliances we had before, saved the countertops, and same cabinets (sorta). We had budgeted for all new cabinets but the lead time in ordering prevented that from becoming reality. So, our GC rebuilt the lowers with fir bases and made the doors/drawer fronts to match the uppers. We had Wicanders cork flooring before but the color is different now. Even the backsplash is the same. We lost the bottom three rows of tiles but because we'd purchased originally from a local store/installer he went way out of his way to get those rows replaced for us in a darn good match even though they were 8 years old. marti - no, the woman I talked to immediately said they'd ship a new one and that she was noting on it to put it IN a packing box this time. I told her I didn't know if the globes were broke, that I hadn't even opened them yet. She said, don't worry about it - they probably are. She did express wonderment that anyone would ship something w/o putting it in a packing box. I know I was shocked to see it on my steps like that. She said they'd put a claim in w/ UPS and they'd deny it (as they should) and then they'd move the claim on to the mfgr. Whoever shipped it out is the responsible party. thx shades. It's real similar to the one I'd posted about some time back. I was about ready to order one only to find it no longer available - it had 2 lights on it and was about 30.00. The only one I could find like it was 82.00 - a lot more than I wanted to spend. But I would have done it if I hadn't rechecked what was available online before actually ordering. I found the one I posted above - it has 3 lights instead of 2, is 10" longer and pewterish rather than nickel. but I think I can live with those differences for less than half the price. It was only 32.00 or 34.00 I forget which. I did need each light part to swivel - and this one does also. And use regular bulbs - I'll have to buy up a good supply of them! I don't think the color will even matter in my bathroom w/other nickel/silverish metals used. It'll be up on the ceiling and I seldom look up there. previous fixture I was going to order -

Rusty is sure cute Kirk! He'll make a great addition to your garden I'm sure! One thing though....his little metal behind is going to stick to your snowy yard, that's for sure!! Love his expression! Too cute!

I got Screech at Smith Bros. Landing, a garden place, in Pepin, Wisconsin which is right on the Mississippi River. Actually Lake Pepin is kind of like a bulge in the Mississippi. Two brothers make all kinds of scrap metal sculptures. Screech was so much fun because his neck bobs all around. He was $25.

Quackers is from an antique mall in Baraboo, Wisconsin which is just outside of the gaudy but fun tourist trap Wisconsin Dells. He was $40 and looks like he has some sort of finish on him to prohibit the rust.

nonacook, thanks so much for sharing Ron's site! I will have to add it to my favorites. I see a lot of sculptures that I would just love! If I ever get a yard, Ron better get his torch a flamin'! he-he

LOVE Rusty, Quackers and Screech! I've always so enjoyed those metal animal sculptures! I've always wanted to learn to weld....I just need to DO IT and learn myself. I'd love to make creations like these guys.....I wish I would have known that in my teens so my Grandpa could have taught me....HE was a welding teacher in Coronado back during WW II and taught my Grandma---that is how they met.

Kaylab, I love your dog too! Your dog reminds me of these birds I saw at an art gallery. I was told they were made from old cars which is a cool idea. I bet your cute doggy was too!

Twomonths, can you believe Rusty WAS posing in the snow in early March? Our snow didn't go away until mid-April. Our area received the most snowfall this winter in recoded history. Spring has finally sprung! Praise the Lord! :o) Bear Hugs! Kirk
