Oh my, that is pretty. Were you thinking of putting it outdoors? If so, did you seal it? If so, was it hard getting the sealer off the bits of mirrors?

The mirrors make it look soooo...dementional...I guess is what I want to say...Are they real "thick" pieces of mirror? It just looks like you are looking way in to the ball...

I know what you mean, patti, I was thinking the same thing that the mirror adds an extra dimension to it. It will look gorgeous in the garden. Great job!

Yes the mirror was a very thick mirror. It was an old dresser mirror, I think it said 1960 something on the back of it. It was very heavy. And your right about it seems like you can look into the ball. I cant wait to get it outside in the garden. I didnt seal it yet. I am debating on if I am going to use a spray on sealer or some type of marine sealer. The grout is Keracolor S and the color is charcoal. I got it at Menard's. It is a sand type of grout. Since, I know nothing about grout, I hope that answered your question. LOL

I forgot to answer the question about the grout. I just read the directions on the bag, mixed it up, and jumped right in. I applied the grout to the ball with a plastic "putty knife". I did one section of the ball at a time. I would grout, then get a bucket of water and a sponge. After the ball sat for a few minutes I wet the sponge and started wiping the ball with it. Rinsing the sponge often seemed to help alot. I kept wiping the ball and rinsing the sponge until all that was left was a nice smooth grout and a film on the mirror pieces. After the ball sat for a few more minutes, I took a rag and wiped the film off the mirror pieces. It was surprisingly easy to do. I had never grouted before this project. I am now thinking I can do those mosaics also. I have always liked those and the grout is what was holding me back on it. Now I know that I can do the grout I will be doing mosaics soon. I just need to get the tools and tiles to do something with. LOL

Ask your local bowling alley if they have any bowling balls that are no longer of any use to them. I asked at mine and they gave 5 but still have around 20 more. They were just glad they werent going to have to dispose of them. And I was happy to get them too!! LOL If that doesnt work then try asking for bowling balls on freecycle. It's worth a try at least.

I have a couple freecycle ads out for Tuscola and Gennesse areas. I will call around to see if any of the closest alley have discards. A friend of my sisters told her that she has several...somwhere. (I know that feeling,lol). So hopefully, I'll have more than I need soon! ; )

I agree that it's just mystical and magical. I love it! It's one of the prettiest gazing balls I've ever seen!

Your bowling ball is awesome. I haven't made any but I love this one and will look at your others on down this post. Did you just break the mirror into little pieces and then adhere it to the bowling ball before grouting it? Love it.

Just one thing I thought to tell you... And you may have figured it out already. I wasn't real bright in the beginning.. DO NOT through your grout water in the drain!! Throw it away outside. It hardens up in your drains and cloggs them big time. Mine did not clog but someone elses did.

Awesome BB with the mirror pieces. This is really nice, I like it alot. So different from the half marbles! This is going to look fantastic in your gardens.
