Gee, thats odd. In your larger picture it looks more like a disease, growing out in a circular pattern from initial infection spots. It doesn't look like any disease I know of. Most peach diseases infect the leaves as well as the fruits, but your leaves look perfectly clean. Very puzzling. About all I can say is compare in a few days and if the spots are growing it is definitely a disease. If the spots are not growing but new spots are showing up, that points to a bug. Overall I would guess it is a disease. Different weather conditions can cause diseases to grow in very different ways, and it could for example be brown rot growth in some unusual weather. Scott

I agree, April in Florida is the wrong time to plant Peach trees. They do best if planted bare-root in winter, while dormant. Scrape the trunk in a thin strip with your fingernail. Try several layers, shallow, medium and deep. If it all looks brown, start cutting the tree down from the top, in sections. If the inner layers are white/brown/tan/black with no green, that area is dead. If you find any green, stop cutting. I chopped several of my Peaches back from 7' to 2' since I was not happy with the form and health of the trees. They are recovering and should be much better. But, dead is dead. If you get no green when scraping or pruning, all the way down to the graft, your tree is a goner. Try again this winter, with a stout, healthy tree from Bay Laurel or Just Fruits. Good Luck! Lisa

Thank you party_music. I do not think they are in want of water, I was actually afraid I was overwatering them. I've been watering them well at least once a week, sometimes more. The soil never really dries out. I planted them in "regular" potting mix (I do not recall any specifics, but I don't think it was anything fancy or special). I had the same thought about nitrogen which is why I fertilized them. At this point I think not allowing them to go dormant was my main mistake. Incase they live (or if I try this again) how do I "harden them off"? I live in Northern Nevada (at the base of the Sierra near Lake Tahoe) so it does get quite cold in the winter. That's the main reason I kept them indoors, but I now realize that may have been a mistake.

Wow, that must have been quite a storm! So sorry it's a compete loss, but you have to be thankful you had no plants in there. My little greenhouse is off my kitchen and has roof glass in it. One of my fears is a serious hail storm that would break the glass, but it's not the cost of replacing the glass I fear as much as what it would do to the plants below. I have all my oldest and largest Hoyas in there and it would be devastating to lose them... Denise in Omaha
