Root Knot Nematodes and Mulching

Well, I keep discovering things about my new location, even after a couple of years. This year I discovered that RKN live in my sandy loam soil. There were no sign of them the year before, but that summer had been proceeded by a particularly cold winter for this area. This summer was of course proceeded by an extremely mild winter. So I'm thinking they must always be here, just in low numbers in a typical year. My question is, should I go ahead with my usual mulching for the winter? I'm on the fence about it because on the one hand I want to keep as much organic matter as possible in my soil, on the other hand, freezing weather decimates their population and not insulating them from the cold might be better. Does anyone have any experience that can help me decide? Cheers!
