use for non-stick foil...

Hi!

I'm an irregular poster and frequent lurker. I have a hint for using non-stick foil for glue projects.

If you squeeze GE Silicone II onto the non-stick foil...well, it won't stick to the foil and you can then use a toothpick or something to daub it onto your project.

Also, if you need to weight down a glued project and don't want the ooze to stick to something, you can put a piece of non-stick foil over it before weighting it down. This worked for me when I was using Elmer's on a paper project and when I used wood glue to glue two flat surfaces together.

I believe it's a coat of silicon that gives it the non-stick covering, and it's heavy-duty type foil. I've only found it in 12-inch wide, 35 sq. ft. rolls, but I live in the middle of nowhere and the newest/latest/greatest may not always be available. My broiler pan for my toaster oven is pretty small - easily covered with a single width of foil; and if I need a foil packet for foil dinners, I just make them. Wish it did come in the pop-up foil sheets, but alas.... -Grainlady

I just discovered non-stick foil this past summer... i love it for cooking especially when I make chicken wings....but never thought of using it for crafts or painting... great idea.. thanksss

I won't use non-stick pans. The coating (teflon) is a major carcinogen, a fact Dupont hid from the public for many years. Fortunately, the information is starting to get to the public just how very dangerous the stuff is. It should NEVER be used for eating utensils. If you knew the kind of protection those who work with it have to use (and they still have a very high incidence of health problems and birth defects), and how many hundreds of millions of $$$ of claims Dupont has had to settle just for the people who live in the vicinity of their teflon plant, you'd NEVER touch the stuff. I only cook in well-seasoned cast iron or stainless steel. Eggs and pancakes DO NOT stick in either. Of course, when using stainless, it has to be used properly--the pan has to be hot BEFORE you add the fat you'll be using. If you do that--as Jeff Smith used to say--"Hot pan, cold oil; food won't stick" you'll find you can cook either eggs or pancakes easily--and more safely--in stainless. Of course, it's a given that you NEVER use cooking sprays--they leave a residue that will cause sticking at some point in the future.

That's a great idea, thanks so much for sharing it. That GE Silicone II glue is a pain in the you know what to get out of the tube and I like the idea of putting it on the foil first and then dipping into it. I'm going to use this trick next time I make the half-marbled BB.

This is a great tip but I have a question. Is non-stick foil the same as regular foil? I haven't noticed "non-stick" foil at the store.

nmgirl, no it isn't the same... The kind I have is Reynolds Wrap Release, comes in a blue box... I'm not sure if there are other brands or not...

I bet that would work for keeping my 1/2 marbles from slipping when I glue them to a bottle too! I have been using masking tape but that can leave residue or get glued on to the bottle itself. Foil would mold around them and hold them and not stick to any stray glue!
