I have a 12 year old Bartlett pear that I topworked to several Asian varieties and 2 additional Ubileen grafts about 5 years ago. This year I noticed leaf spot for the first time in my orchard, involving only this tree and only on the Bartlett and Ubileen sections. I removed the remaining branches with Bartlett leaves and sprayed the tree with myclobutanil. No signs of psylla. I'm considering now what to do with the Ubileen part of the tree. This consists of two 5 year old multibranched grafts, each about 8 feet long. I'm considering pruning them back sharply, heading off each lateral shortly after it comes off the leader, so that no leaves will be left on that part of the tree. This has the advantage of removing all diseased leaves from the orchard and hopefully keeping the disease from spreading to my other pear trees and not significantly damaging the Ubileen .From those experienced managing this disease I would appreciate your comments on my proposed plan.

This is great news. Thank you both so much for responding! The spots are definitely identical on both trees. I'll check out home depot for one of the fungicides. I think I'll wait until after the fruit gets picked to apply it... and probably again at the start of spring. Will let you know how it goes then. That Ya-Li is weird though... when it gets fruit, it stops growing leaves and wood. I wonder about the stump it's planted over. Is there something I should put into the soil around it ? Thanks again

It looks sort of like cork and it is by the surface of the pear. Each spot is something like 1/8" or so (bigger or smaller as well). I think Geraldo may have it there; bitter pit is primarily a problem on apples but I have also seen it on my asian pears. One last long shot is stink bugs, but these mainly deform the fruit and you did not mention deformed fruit. See good link below for more information on bitter pit including treatment. I had seen that possibility pop up while trying to do some research, but since I didn't see anything when I tried tapping anything off, I wasn't sure, so thank you for your input! Do I have to be concerned about any of the stuff getting into the dirt when I clean it off? Or does the hosing drown everything? I would like to try getting them outside eventually, but I'm cautious about northern Alberta weather being too cold for it. I've been mostly focused on getting them to a stable, happy state before I try anything too shocking. I've recently moved both plants to a much sunnier spot, to see how they deal with the increase in daily heat, sort of as a test before I tried any outside movement.
