Click/floating floor under radiators?
Comments (1)Always try to follow closely the manufacturer's guidelines for installing their materials. If your issue isn't addressed in the instructions that come with the product packaging, then go to their website and look for information or call them directly. If they allow cast iron radiators to rest on their flooring...expect dents over time...then you could remove them and reinstall them when you're done. If it is a hot water system, then you will have to drain the system before removing the radiators and then refill it and bleed all your radiators as you refill the system....See MoreWindow treatments over a radiator
Comments (3)we had the same thing in our living and dining rooms when i grew up. all the radiators had cover boxes that looked like window seats-- they were metal but painted to match the walls. my mom had box valances made for the windows that were wide enough to hang all the drapes. each side of the window had a fixed panel all the way to the floor. then she had panels made that only came to the bottom of the sill/skimmed across the top of the radiator cover-- these could be opened and closed with a traverse rod. these panels and the fixed panels were the same fabric and were all lined. she also had sheers over just the windows and each window had a pull down shade as well. in the dining room we had a triple window above a low radiator that was covered as well. we used the radiator for a sideboard. since the windows were so wide mom only had sheers and shades on the windows and fixed panels of drapes on each side with a valance going across the whole thing. are your radiators covered? a cover makes them more 'managable' when you decorate-- the look like benches or side tables. since you are looking for a formal look, using fixed panels on each side of your radiators would make sense-- above the window the rods should have a treatment that ties everything together--lamberquin, valance, swags, etc. balance the radiator on the one side of your fireplace with a side table or bookcase of the same size. diggerb...See MoreRadiator cover top -- how to dress up?
Comments (12)Your rad cover is very much like one my DH made for a house we had many years ago. I put plants on mine as well altho did 'cook' an azalea. Best to use good waterproof cache pots or plant pot saucers under them to prevent staining. You might consider using burlap as a runner as it's not necessary to sew it. Just trim evenly to the size you want and pull a few threads to make a fringe. You could use a product called "Fray Check" to prevent the fringe from further fraying. I've made two such runners from some leftover burlap I had bought for other crafts. Didn't use Fray Check so have to be very careful with them. Burlap is masculine and a bit rustic and I like it for my rustic/refined decor....See MoreHow to deal with windowsill/backsplash?
Comments (4)We tiled to the window on both sides to the bottom of the cabinets. Under the hood we tiled to bottom of the hood. I don't think it is worth the effort to move the electrical box and stop the tile short. We did that (including moving the box) on the end run and in retrospect I would have just run it to the door frame. My tile went around the windowsill but the sill could probably be dremeled out to fit a slab behind it- caulk will hide the joint. BTW my sill was made extra deep on purpose for hosting overwintering plants- just replanted those plants outside yesterday....See Moreprairiemoon2 z6b MA
