Here too. Like clockwork, they show up and the feast begins. I believe, I too will feed them some Sevin soon.

We finally had a nice soaking all-day rain here in Eastern PA.

Today, while re-applying deer repellent in my small home orchard, I saw 2 JPs. That is the first I've seen.

They haven't come out here, yet, or at least I haven't seen any. At my new house I am also having a year with no squash bugs, which I would have sworn was impossible.

Either the JPs are running late or a miracle has happened and I have none.

They arrived here today. I found one in my black raspberries. I put milky spores down this year.

I sprayed about 8 gal of Sevin today. They were in every plum tree, except the american plums, and also in the apricots and peaches. None in the nectarines, apples or pears yet. Usually they leave the berries apples pears and grapes and cherries to the very last. I put down milky spore last yr. I'll know soon if it had any effect. Lordy they sure do love plum leaves.

I noticed them for the first time today too--altho they haven't attacked anything yet. It seems to rain every other day here, so I'm hesitant to start spraying. They work on my plums as well but really love my grapes. I also noticed that 'coons were sampling my peaches already. We've eradicated 34 of them from my acreage in less than a year and can't begin to keep up with them.

imred, Our farm is in Clay County, near a miniscule town called Iola. I ended up spraying Friday. Of course, it rained. The beetles were worse today and were on just about everything except the pears, so I sprayed again. Of course, it rained.

They were HORRIBLE here the past 2 years, completely defoliated most my plum/cherry trees. So I bought some milkied spurs & applied it last year. This year I found just a few of them on a couple trees THATS IT! Im able now to pick "JB" free raspberries, haven't seen any on those berries. All from ONE application, I was totally shocked. I just dusted the ground again this year but their basicly gone now, the stuff really WORKS!

brookw--I'm in Union co. just south of Carbondale. I sprayed Wed. it rained Thurs & Fri andd I checked yesterday. I only say 2 in the entire orchard. I had to spray Mom's roses so I hit my young plums again. But I have had only about 10 to 20% of the population I had last yr. I am beginning to believe the milky spore had quite an effect. But we are just starting JB season. talked to a couple of friends at church this morning and they say they are covered up with the buggers I thimk the MS is worth a try. Picked half bushel of apricots yesterday.

They are new up here, within just the past few years i've seen the first ones. I laid MS last summer. I hope to never see one again.

I think winter plays a big role in what happens the following summer, along with moisture.

We need to get rid of these things or at least suppress them. I say import every known predator from Japan and lay MS by the square mile :)

I read some research out of Colorado of a town that pretty much got rid of them using several methods. Mass trapping, grub killer on almost every lawn...the numbers steadily dropped to almost zero. As of 2008 all they found were a few males.

imred, IMO, you live in the most beautiful part of the state. Before I took up this crazy market farming, I actually had a life and was an avid fisherman. I've spent many, many days on the various waters there. What an amazing history that region has as well!!

I retract my earlier statement about JB's not being much of a problem. This year, they are a plague and are on every fruit-producing plant I own. With this endless rain, I'm getting tired of having to spray daily as well, not to mention the cost. I see Milky Spore in my future.

I used Milky Spore at my old place at 1/4 the dose in the outlying areas and 1/2 the dose right under their preferred crops. (I was covering a lot of acreage, and I'm cheap!)

It really, really worked. The JB's didn't up and vanish the next year but I'd say I had less than half their previous numbers.

On the downside, the population of june bugs went up. I don't know if that was incidental or not.

There were JBs in my grapes and my s bweet cherrys today but not like last yr. I had some Sevin mixed so I sprayed and about 20 min after I finished a strong thunderstorm pushed thru. Hopefully the ones I sprayed are done for. Checked all my plums apples peaches nectarines and apricots and only saw 1
