Propagating vines, using hormone

I'm posting because I want info on the "best practice" for rooting cuttings from vines like pothos or heartleaf begonia in soil.

I've got some 'rooting hormone' (I.B.A.), in gel form.

I believe it's best to take cuttings from the newest shoot growth (tip growth) from a vine. But my question is: is it necessary or best to cut in such a way that my cutting has a node at its bottom that will go down into the soil? Or is it the case that, since I can dip the bottom of the cutting into the I.B.A. gel, having a node there doesn't matter, and that the internode section will then sprout viable roots simply by being in contact with the moist soil?

Thanks.

Joel
