tiny white spots on leaves and streaking of veggies

Not sure if the two are related or not, but I have tiny white spots on the leaves of LOTS of plants- beans, tomatoes, and lots of perennial flowers. I can't see any bugs, but there *may* be a few black spots on the underside of the leaves. Not always. My peppers and beans also have streaks of a purple-ish color. Not sure if they are related?? Any ideas on what is causing these??

Those tiny white spots mean that you either have, or had, a bunch of spider mites. To verify, look on the undersides of the leaves.

Be also aware that this sounds like a fungus. Treatment is easy. Your local nursery should sell powdered sulfur for just a couple dollars per bag. Mix powder in hose end sprayer with water per instructions and spray away late in the day when the sun is not direct. Sulfur is safe for bees. Do not get the copper based kind as it's toxic to most anything.

Yeah didn't know that when I bought them on impulse. Saw 'em at Home Depot and was like, "Yeah, I'd like some of those." Been working down the row, planting the tomatoes, peppers, etc. Doesn't help that everything is clay! (See pic: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/tomato/msg061246098308.html?15 ). I've just been winging this whole thing. I'm only planting one. Got a mound 4in high and about 3ft wide with a lot of manure worked in and about 2 shovel-fulls of Miracle Gro garden soil. I've read variously to fertilize because they are heavy feeders and others that say don't fertilize a lot if at all (I forget why not), so I'm taking a middle road (I know that's a logical fallacy, the middle road is not necessarily the truth, but it seems like a good compromise is this case). Wondering if I should peel away as much of the peat pot as I can (after soaking it ofc) since peat is very acidic; I dunno about peat pots though. The last tomato I planted though had a lot of roots growing through the peat pot, guessing it probably true for these guys.

Hi! I have a couple of chile peppers plants and they were super healthy when i put them in the garden. They have all the right conditions: hot, humid, mulched, well drained soil, rich soil and now the leaves have this yelloish color with tiny white spots between the veins. I posted a picture on garden clinic. I though this might be spider mites damage. I found only 1 or 2 and I inspected many leaves. Maybe I don't see them? Please help me, the thought of not having pickled jalapeno this year frightened me!!!

Very possible that the little black fellows are aphids. If so, they suck plant sap and will weaken the plant. Rub them off, or use direct hits of insecticidal soap, diluted according to label directions. In both cases, repeat as needed. I'm not able to see enough detail to suggest what the white might be.

Thanks for the response - that seems likely. I looked under the leaves and saw a few very small white bugs and removed them, but still having the same problem. Do you recommend manually trying to remove these or using something like a repellent or natural insecticide?

Classic sign of spider mites. Use a magnifying glass to look at the undersides of the leaves for fine webbing and tiny spider like critters.

The general appearance of the leaves is that they are otherwise healthy and the spider mites may not be much of a problem anymore and all you are seeing is the damage they caused previously when their numbers were much higher.

This seems to be fairly common in beans later in the season, although quite often the infestation has run its course before you really notice them, so no treatment is needed.
