absolutely, as long as it's removed when days are hot it will allow a little longer growing season.

You'll find I think that most plants get far too large to be contained within a WOW as the season progresses. They will work well with new plantings in the fall but need to be removed from established spring plants once the weather warms and before the plant size makes removal impossible without damaging the plant.

I'm thinking of trying a wall 'o wine bottles...joined by Duct tape. ;>) Plenty of corks will be popped between now and New Year's Day, and i love repurposing my garbage. lol

My thoughts are similar to jll0306 above. I tried the brand name product in its early days and quickly decided that large tall soda bottles and a bit of string or tape were nearly, if not in fact, superior.

I've done the soda bottle thing and it works pretty good. I put a tomato cage over the plant, placed about 6 water-filled 2-liters around the cage and covered the whole thing with plastic. It worked, but it was ugly. Had to make sure the plastic was loose during the day for air circulation. And it was a pain to clean up and dispose of the whole mess.

The walls-o-water are less unattractive, easier to use and easier to clean up. My 2cents. Kay.

I give WOW about a D-.

I use WOWs, spring planting, because using them is the only way I've successfully grown tomatoes in my garden:) However, they are a pain to erect and keep erect. Last spring, I made a tee pee with bamboo sticks and did not have a single ruined plant. (The WOWs will tip if the garden is not flat/even or if water cells empty.) Nothing raises the blood pressure like a flattened/drowned plant. My bamboo tee pee (4-5 sticks) kept the plants safe. I also temporarily tied the top of the WOW closed when poor weather threatened. My plants seemed much happier this way, vs. letting the plant tops get snowed on. I have an older version (dark green) of the WOW and last spring bought a newer version (almost white). The newer version is definitely easier to fill. I have found that a 5 gallon bucket with the bottom removed makes a good prop while filling and allows one person to erect the WOW without too much effort. Since the WOW is maybe 2.5' tall, certain plants will easily outgrow it and then the plant's top will be exposed to the elements.

I have a love-hate relationship with my WOWs and although I am C-R-A-B-B-Y for minutes after putting them out each spring, I can't imagine gardening without them.

They would definitely extend the growing season for lower growing plants.
