A little late...Christmas Project skates....

These skates belonged to my mom when she was younger... I haven't painted in a long time so I pulled out my box of old Christmas cards that I saved for the pictures. I had already cut some of them out to use in a collage of some sort..(another unfinished project) Any way I glued them to the skates with Modge Podge and then coated with several coats. Painted the toes with gold paint. Still need some ribbon or cording to use as laces. I put them outside with some greenery. Sorry it took so long to post them. Now in the box till next year.

Thank you so much docmom for basically holding my hand so far! lol i watered the seed trays in the greenhouse today :) there was condensation and some seemed dried out a little...and omg, i bought like 3 or 4 books on seed saving and seed planting different seeds. the one contains info on planting alot of different varieties and care on each plant and i keep it close with me when new seeds arrive!! I also can not wait to attempt to save more varieties this year and have much more to offer in fall if all goes right!! I've also informed several family members, if this all goes good, i might have extras to give away. also might do some flemarket or yarden sales in the future...I really love gardening and I'm so glad I am taking time to do a hobby that I love so much again! I would love to find a job in gardening in the future or just to sell a few plants at fleamarkets and stuff. The garden is fun but it's also more enjoyable when you have people ooo and ahhhh over your plants and are asking you questions or ideas. :) : ) :) Thank you so much! ~michael P.S. Hi all! I finished several projects and have moved on to a matching purse (for mom --to match her baby's anouk I made from the knitty), a made a superfun and pink fuzzy felted purse for myself, and now I am knitting up a super warm shawl for myself to keep on my computer chair and snuggle as I surf the web!!! My goal is to chew down some of my yarn stash so I don't have to feel quite as guilty when I give in to my next yarn bash. I saw someone looking for slipper patterns.... I don't have the addy but do a search under knit a longs and there is currently a great knit along for slippers with loads of free patterns for you. Hope this helps. I like looking at the knit a longs as it gives great ideas and different color/yarn combos. Mari - I'm surprised lumberyard doesn't have exterior beadboard - thought a lot of people would use it for porch ceilings? Where do you live? I could come help stain if your DH would help me with my projects later LOL! Would predrilling be easier than setting nails? Or you'd have to set anyway? marybeth and remodelfla - nice mosaics! danielle - your DH is SuperDaddy! I can't let me kids see pics or they'll want one (and I'd have to build it since my DH is a software guy, I'm the hardware person!). Happy Birthday to the boys! Well, doesn't count since it's the end of the week, but it was raining today so carpenter cousin got off early from landscaping job (he's looking for different part-time job so he can do more carpentry, or a FT carpentry job again since he got laid off in Jan). I had taped off the counters to caulk, started marking studs to get shoe mold up when he called so I finished marking studs, taped off the lower island countertop edges too, then had to pick up our kids at school. He came over and was caulking and putting up shoe when we got home, then put up trim on sides of island (even though I wasn't happy with my finish job and would have liked to have done a final sanding)while the kids played, and cut the 12ft length of crown sitting in my DR to length. Brought me the mitred returns for cabinets on each side of corner and the center bay stool(sill) cut to proper depth but not notched. I've got lots of sanding and staining to do! Actually, putting crown on the kitchen cabinets was a winter make-work job for him that he didn't get to in March, so I told him my next priority is finishing that bay window stool and all the FR/kitchen door and window casings, and getting the baseboard (finished) nailed up. Hopefully I'll get the fiberglas pulled out from around the windows and slider, and low-expanding foam put in, then the next rainy day (or next w/e?) he'll come over and join up some casings with biscuit joiner, and maybe fit the new stool (3 pieces) so I can stain and finish that. I'd love to get the FR windows and slider trim finished and up by 4th of July, and if I can get tile issues resolved I can get kitchen door casings and then the last bit of baseboard in FR (runs into kitchen) and the small pieces of kitchen baseboard in (they're all finished) by Labor Day. It would be nice to have all the trim in the house finished 2 years after moving in, but I don't know if we can do the foyer, LR, half bath, and mudroom by then as well, since I haven't stained any of it yet and I have to do doors and window sashes this summer while I can set up sawhorses in the garage - short pieces of baseboard can wait til fall/winter, I finish them in the Master Bath (which will be finished in oh, 5 years). But maybe I can stain/finish and he can put up the crown by Thanksgiving so I can get it off my DR floor?

I grew up in a small town in Ohio. Our drive was not paved, we put the ashes from the furnace on the drive in the winter. We also burned leaves on the drive way. Our chicken coop was not abandoned, no chickens; but it was used as dad's workshop and storage for garden things like strawberry baskets and bushel baskets for the pears and apples. Along with tools and fertilizers. I loved that place. We had a large veggie garden and had one deep freezer devoted to frozen veggies and a fruit cellar for canned items (pickles and pie filling). When products were in season, the phone would ring. one of the neighbors who 'ordering' corn or apples or berries or whatever was in season, and my sister and I would use our little red wagon to deliver the produce and collect the money. I don't know if that qualified as my first job. Once each autumn we split a cow with neighbors, we got about a side of beef. That went into the other deep freezer. That one was special because it also held our ice cream stash. The neighbors immediately north of us had been friendly with our family for many years. Very creative, and they look beautiful. Love the gold touches you put on them too. I've saved/cutout some pretty pics from cards too--but haven't done anything with them yet. Luvs

Oh I really like those! What a great idea for decoupage. I wouldn't have thought of that. Even nicer that they were your mom's skates - a keepsake memory.

I've got a box of those "cut-outs" just waiting for me, too :) I'm thinking about doing an old suitcase with them.

Wow- great idea! They turned out beautiful.I have my moms old skates sitting on the kitchen cabinet (since early December) and planned to paint on them but just didn't find the time. This is a great idea! I have a box of saved Christmas cards that I just couldn't part with- I'm glad I saved them. I know what I'll be busy with this weekend:)

That's one project that I will only be doing with one pair of ice skates...And only because a friend from Iowa brought me a pair.

Nona your right... I spent 17yrs in Fla no snow there,LOL!! Mom tells me everytime I talk to her how nice it is. But we are born and raised Buckeyes (Ohio) So she did alot of skating growing up. No need for them in NC either.Or sleds which is what I would love to have next.

Nancy I have been planning to make a serving tray from some of the old cards as well. You take a wooden picture frame. Attach two handles at oppisite ends. Take the back of the picture frame and glue the cut outs in a collage then place back in the frame. Walla!!! The picture frame needs to be pretty flat so you can attach the handles. The article I saw also put other items like silk flowers and such. Also using those broken glass ornaments. Of course I've been planning to do this for SEVERAL years!! LOL!

bright, those skates are adorable!! Love the use of the old cards, too! I did the broken ornaments tray a few years ago for my sis. Looked pretty good, only thing I was disappointed with was the spray glue. The phrase "dries crystal clear" on the can was misleading - it's sorta clear, but you can definitely see something is covering the mirror. That affected the reflection of the broken pieces quite a bit.

I love your skates those are so pretty. The gold toes add a lot to them too. How creative(-: I think Christmas colored ribbon would make greatlaces. Now you are all set for next Christmas(-: I love iceskates. I have several pairs in my shoe garden just planted with succulents. I never thought about doing this with them. Maybe I will find another pair at the flea market next summer and be able to do something like you did(-:

This gives me an idea for the pair of skates I picked up at a yard sale. I don't paint, so decoupage is the way to go for me. Those are beautiful!

Oh neat!!!

I've seen these at craft shows so far this year, but all they did was to stick some flowers in the top...

I love this idea!

Problem is, I've cut back on my Christmas card giving, and we hardly get any from people!

I'll have to look at the after Christmas sales for my cards. :)
