Glad you like it. Nobody could tear me away from Mapei stuff. I think if you try their mortar, you'll like it equally. It sticks right away, is very strong and is a good grout also. LOVE that stuff. If you have questions, call their 800 # and they are so informative, and very patient.

Hi Tiffy, sounds like you had a plan. I haven't done anything but I have been collecting for the spring.
I ramble the GJ and I just had to get out the marbles and
beads and get the old brain juices flowing LOL.I looked out at my very dead flower beds and wondered what I will
put in the spring. have fun.

who was the first to discover this type of grout?
I haven't done so many mosaic pieces that it makes much difference but if it's that much more effecient, then it's sure worth checking into some more.

I've been using a brand called "all in one"
premixed ceramic tile adhesive and grout..
no sealer needed but I still spray a couple of coats no matter.
the one I like is sanded antique white.
it's just a nice aandy color.
I coat what I'm doing first and then as a 'butter' on each piece as they're put on.
then, as grout for a 3rd application.
I started to coat them first, because I could sketch the design on it and follow those lines. easier than drawing on clear glass.

When I began mosaicing nearly two yrs. ago, I was asking all over town for something to use on my front walk that was weatherized. I first bought from a tile dealer, and he gave me the powdered mortars, powdered grouts and the admixture. Finally went to Lowes and asked in the flooring section, and was directed to the Mapei that already had the polymer additive. Before I bought, I called Mapei's 800#, and he assured me the stuff was what I needed to mosaic onto my concrete front walk. I did and not a piece has moved. I used it on my garden columns, on "Shea's Tower" and on all my outside mosaics, I use it for the grout also. I LOVE this stuff. Attaching a link to my albums - if y'all are interested - take a look.

Slow, I never get tired of looking at your albums!!! It's the same looking at Klinger's albums!!! Mapei rules!!! Never use any other kind myself, and will use the mortar this year on my entry patio when I mosaic it. Also the patio off my bedroom. Gotta a WHOLE lotta mosaicing to get done this year,gotta keep up with Slow!!hee hee! And Tiffy, I feel the same way about grouting!! LOVE IT!!!

Well, I did have a great day! Can't do pictures yet because the batteries on MY camera died because somebody else used it. Can anyone relate to that? Oh, please say you can... Anybody?... :)

The product you are using sounds great.

My problem was that folks around here use grout for bathrooms and kitchens and such and when I mention mosiacs 99% react as though I'm talking about aliens. I don't live in a small town, but Halifax still has a ways to go in being able to provide the hobby, craft, and art community with quality goods.

We finally got a Home Depot about 5 years ago, and a Michael's just opened last November. As much as the local stores don't like these big guns coming in, it spins a bit more competition into the equation which is sometimes badly needed.

I like the fact that I can come on this forum and search or pose a question about what junkers are using, then make a judgement and go get it, and look forward to your input to my queries in the future! I chose Mapei because Slow recommended it and if you look at her albums, you'll see experience and craftwomanship which is truly amazing. The lady has got to know what she is doing and talking about, eh? LOL!!

Well thank y'all for the nice words, but I'm still learning. I'll be a student of this art for the rest of my life, asking questions, experimenting, but until then, just give me another 25 lbs. of that Mapei, please.

SO, after reading this post I decided to check out if Mapei is here in Oz and IT IS!!!!!!! OK, it's up in Queensland but I'm sure if I call them thay can direct me to a store that sells it here in Victoria. Oh yes, I want an exquisite, superfantabulous tower - Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!!! - somewhere in my garden just like the one Slow made - but doubt will be as pretty. Thank you Tiffy for finally giving me that extra shove I needed to look that up!!! Mapei here I come!!!!

I think you'll really like it, Cait. I've seen them talking about it on the Ozmosaics, so am glad you can get it there. Are you anywhere near Sandy Robertson's studio? How I'd love to take a class from her. That woman is awesome. I'm a member of her forum but don't monitor it like I do this one. Lots of good stuff going on there. That tower won the October challenge. I was so surprised and honored. Can't wait to see yours - it'll be a masterpiece, the way you construct.
