I hope it works for you, but deer may still come back after they are more used to the surrounding( when they realize that sprinkler is nothing to be scared) and after the new leaves have grown lusher for a real treat. Thank you for sharing and please let us know if this truly work for a prolonged period.

I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but they will be back. If not tonight, another night, any time of day or season. They remember, and they learn quickly that nothing bad really happens. My neighbors tried the motion-activated sprinkler, and eventually the deer just thought it was rain and kept on eating. What they didn't eat, they trampled. We've tried all kinds of deterrents, but like the Borg, they simply adapt.
Tall fences, large dogs, firearms, or pavement -- otherwise, expect some damage or loss of your plants. Nothing is deer-proof, and deer-resistant is only temporary.

I dont know about the statement that nothing is deer proff. Read a article way back that said that if you put up a fence that the deer can not see through that they will not jump over it as they can not see what is on the other side. Think it was in Mother Earth. The article said that they used burlap and that it had to be atleast 5 feet tall, after that the deer quit going into the garden.

I heard it was 6 tall not 5, but I imagine each article says something a little different, and you can plant a picker hedge, like Japanese Barberry, takes years to grow, but well worth it if it will work, no guarantees. Also the medieval route is to plant briars and thistles, they grow in less than a year and will keep varmits out. I've tried this last year, but nothing grew for me, this next year is green briars growing up Sunflowers, they grew at least, my milk thistle didn't. That's how the medieval gardens grew unharmed without a fence.

We have a 6 foot black plastic fence around our garden, which is about 12 feet wide. No deer get in. We had to add a layer of chicken wire dug down a foot or so to keep the small animals out, and a proper gate. Now for the slugs!

A 30.06 won't deter them, but it will thin their numbers and provide meat to go with the potatoes, carrots, beans and corn.

I'm not sure this will work - because I don't have deer - but lots of other varmints. One new trick tho - might be of some use -

We had - and enjoyed a bumper crop of apricots and almonds this year - by using mylar balloons. They dance and bob with the slightest breeze, and have successfully kept raccoons and fruit eating birds away from our fruit. They also discouraged rats from climbing our orange trees (we live on the edge of a wild life preserve canyon).

Also helpful were old computer compact discs that were tied to the trees - and the shiny surfaces helped discourage birds.

As I said, don't know if the balloons would be helpful for the deer, but they are very colorful in the trees, if nothing else.
